  This is a Spanish drama epic film about Carmen a half Gipsy, half witch,bandit queen who basically makes life hell for the man who falls in love with her.
  Paz Vega is perfectly cast as Carmen the sultry young woman with a destructive nature.
  I'm not familiar with source material. I enjoyed the movie overall. It's a good period picture.

  El dolor y el amor son nuestros eternos maestros

  Una vez más confieso que vi una película por Sbaraglia, pero también me intrigaba ver una historia de pasión y obsesión, de celos y crimen... solo siento que fue desarrollada de forma mediocre.
  No tiene que ver con los actores, Paz Vega no me parece una excelente actriz, pero es hermosa y perfecta para este papel de "femme fatale" intrépida y salvaje, y Leonardo Sbaraglia acompaña muy bien como el tímido soldado que no puede evitar su obsesión por ella, trazando así un camino de ida lejos del deber y hacia lo impensado.

  Carmen, not to be confused with religious bigot and multitalented recording artist Carman, is apparently based on a novella but I guess there are stage productions as well.

  Carmen is a hot gypsy woman who uses sex as her primary coinage, predating Bitcoin by almost 200 years. She has a soldier boy she says she loves but throughout the film, she has a headstrong demeanor that suggests she's gonna do whatever it takes to survive in such times where the hierarchy of social classes is rigid and unchanging. Also she has a husband and a guy who "owns" her:

  "If you sleep with him, don't enjoy it"

  This guy is the worst kind of cuck.
