This is one of things people used to sell by saying shit like "It's X on CRACK!" or "What were they on when they made this? Drugs!?" but it's really just 50 minutes of witnessing animators in complete control over a project and the results are incredible. You can't look away for 5 seconds or else you might miss something. Soundtrack slaps too.
The baby came out of the womb with a gun
"daamn it feels good to be violent!"
wish i grew up with the MANGA VIDEO release to replay 300 times on mute while listening to crystal method or so so def bass allstars vol 2 while skipping school-- we were all deep in that manic, jagged pop-trash liquid television/tank girl/mahfood hipster style, real scud the disposable assassin shit... even reminds me of julie doucet with use of solid inky shapes & shadows you never see in animation, "all this drillin got the dick feelin like a power tool" - frank ocean. replicated the dystopian/verhoeven experience by streaming on roku tubitv broken up by commercials for nugenix total t's new "man-boosting formula" & the simpering fbook messenger ad where they sing "all together now - all together now!" that makes me wanna do my own ultrastylized thrill kill/mass sh**ting/prison riot. "ow, my weiner"
Only a trained eye will catch the sexual undertones sprinkled throughout
My fellow Letterboxd users' comments "too-octane", "pouring bleach into eyes" and "cocaine laced" are all extremely accurate but frustratingly used in a derogatory sense. I watched this film and wasn't bored once. The complexities of the animation! Constantly bouncing and cutting disallowing intense focus, the joys multiple, the gags hilarious.
I was reminded of Ren and Stimpy, strangely enough. There was that sick humour (taken to extremes here - complete with implied rape, Battle Royale type gore, a giant drill penis etc.) and a kind of ADHD energy. It's the kind of stuff targeted to restless adolescents and young adults; that kind of Adult Swim/Cartoon Network humour.
But it's Japanese! So clearly it's better! Like, heaps fucking better! The attention…
Another incredibly animated film that leans into the unexpectedly gory (for someone who had no idea what to expect as I came in blindly) and some really creepy to terrifying character designs. Also, at one point, it gets pretty horny. The action is magnificent, in large part due to the animation, split screens, and all the blood and violence. There’s also plenty of really cool stuff with characters shooting, killing, and tearing people apart as they ride a motorcycle at high speed.
All in all, if you prefer your anime to be very violent and bloody, this is worth checking out and it takes less than an hour.

crazyass imaishi animated insanity, hyper-dynamic anal futurism with lots of maximalist rhyme and absolutely no reason to be as fucking awesome as it is. didn't expect this to have so much qabalistic/thelemtic symbolism, but i'm glad it did.
A cocaine-laced shotgun blast to the face.
Probably the fastest paced thing... ever?
Ridiculously insane ride. An anime film that's godly paced with a ton of action, structured like a beat 'em up game where you go through different levels and turn everyone who's standing in your way into bloody meat. While watching this acid trip ahh movie, your brain also turns into a damn ground meat, and I enjoyed every second of it.
Adrenaline-filled, peak action comedy and sci-fi anime that's insanely underrated. I saw this film a months ago in a small indie theater, and the tickets were sold out, so I thought that this is a highly praised and recognized film by every cinephile. I'm in shock that this isn't the truth, and oh boy, what an opportunity I lost…
another movie with a guy with a drill penis
An overstimulation of all senses in a vibrant fascinating way , over the top in every aspect and the bombastic animation is beautiful.
Until last night, Tetsuo: The Iron Man and The Phantom of Regular Size were the only two films I had seen that blessed my eyes with drill dick (Thanks, Shinya Tsukamoto).
I had been craving more on-screen drill dick representation ever since, and finally, another movie came through with the goods – Dead Leaves.
An absolute anime gem – it has freneticism comparable to Redline, and so much cyberpunkian flair, too. It's hard for me to imagine any other piece of visual media having bullet sprays and bloodshed as absurd and fun as this.
Dead Leaves is a film that you feel. I felt like I was getting the shit beaten out of me, but I wasn't even mad about…
