  Informative and well-narrated, and it mostly doesn't pull punches in criticizing the short-comings of this whole conflict, both in its inceptions and in the major hypocricies present in American politics.

  Better than most documentaries of the kind, but not quite amazing. It's worth watching for anyone so we can understand the truth behind the lies we've been told in our textbooks.

  Nothing outstanding, but it does a good job of filling in the cracks of a war most Americans know little about. Very funny how much the Canadian scholars they interviewed eat up this conflict lol

  Quality documentary about a little-understood war in which the United States was drawn largely as a result of its attempts to play a neutral role in the ongoing conflict between England and France. Obviously there are far too many complicated issues, battles and personalities for the filmmakers to delve into in detail in a 2-hour film in order to fully explain the War of 1812, but they do a good job explaining most of the root causes (touching on England's long-standing impressment of American sailors and its demand that any neutral party seeking to trade with France stop over to pay duty in an English port first, the cannonade of the USS Chesapeake, the Western, and Northern, expansion of the United States, etc.) and documenting and explaining its most memorable moments ("Don't give up the ship!", the coining of the "fog of war" phrase, the Battle of New Orleans) pretty well.

  Basically your average PBS history documentary, but I'm a sucker for those so I liked it. Definitely very informative and really delves into a war that's often overlooked history wise.

  I got 3O mins in before I fell asleep the first time I watched this on x1.25 speed and got through it the next day on x1.5 speed anyways can anyone tell me STEP TWO: Name and explain the significance of three symbols that come out of the war? Why are they important to national identity? Value: 5 points

  Awesome and encompassing explainer about the build-up, execution, and impact of the War of 1812.
  Pulls no punches; gets to the point; unbiased approach - including the shortcomings of either end.

  Growing up, I always loved learning about the War of 1812. If I'm being honest it's because I wanted to be different since no one seems to give a shit about, or have any knowledge in slightest, about the reason for the War(s) and its implications.
