the most fantastical thing about groundhog day is that phil is able to see a neurologist and a psychiatrist on the same day he makes the appointment. i also love that he gay-panics ned ryerson into running off during his “good” phase. i miss harold ramis very much.

No Holds Barred 1989
isn’t it amazing that the same muscley tough guy who appeared on our lunchboxes and book covers as kids would eventually grovel at the feet of a fascist like some whipped toolbag schoolboy? this movie’s portrayal of hogan as some measured man of integrity is the most outlandish thing about it.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984
i was way too young when i first saw a nightmare on elm street—and on christmas eve, of all nights, when my older cousin popped in the vhs to scare the shit out of me. once johnny depp got masticated by his bed and vomited on the ceiling, i begged my parents to let me sleep in their bed that night. they refused, and i was petrified until the morning. i cherish that memory. i wouldn’t give it up for anything.
