Cool World

Ralph Bakshi saw Roger Rabbit and was like "hold my drink" and proceeded to trip down a flight of stairs much like the character Roger Rabbit might.

Maybe his intended version of this as a weird, horny, R-rated horror movie about a comic book artist who wants to transgress and transform the world by fucking his own cartoons (which he made sound sort of like Sin City starring Jessica Rabbit) might've been better and this is just a mess because of how compromised it was by Paramount who wanted a silly PG kids movie about Brad Pitt policing interracial relationships (?) but it's hard to tell because even just the basic building blocks of this (integrating the live-action with animation) is so cheaply and lazily done. Some of the pure animation sequences have that crude Bakshi charm but anytime a human is on screen it just doesn't work. It’s flat, unenergetic, not particularly funny (it doesn’t even really have that many attempts at jokes, or silent-era gag set pieces), and somehow both narratively confusing and generic which is odd considering the psychedelic nature of Bakshi's drawings. No one comes off particularly well in this but have no idea what Bassinger is doing once she's in human form.
