Collection Summary

In 1793, William R. Davie laid the cornerstone for Old East, the first building on the campus of the nation’s first public university. In the more than 200 years since then, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been the site of a rich and complex history, defined by fascinating people, evolving places, and iconic events. Published and manuscript materials held in the Wilson Special Collections Library document this history, but the objects associated with the University’s people, places, and events connect us to its stories in a more personal way. The North Carolina Collection Gallery in Wilson Library serves as the central repository for the artifacts that tell the story of UNC.
