Netflix's 'Society of the Snow' showcases the voice of Numa Turcatti, who provides a detailed narrative of the Flight 571 crash and the survival efforts of the survivors, with Numa serving as the protagonist while the passengers face tragic circumstances and a tragic death at the hands of murderers.
Numa Turcatti became the last surviving survivor of the Crash.
Born on October 30, 1947, a 24-year-old law student from Montevideo, Uruguay, arrived on Flight 571 with a group of his friends. Although not a member of the original rugby team, he had a close relationship with most of the team during his time in the Andes. He eventually gained a better understanding of them all, and is now remembered by the survivors as one of the hardest of them all, uttering his name with respect. His friends fondly remember him and his friends with fond memories.
Turcatti was one of the only survivors of the plane crash, and while he did not sustain any injuries, he was willing to undertake tasks and help others survive. He was also driven to leave the valley by hiking up and finding a way out of the mountains, and he was so eager to do so that he would attempt to do it again. He was also among the three survivors (including Roberto Canessa and Gustavo Zerbino) to embark on the first expedition out of the valley.
During that time, the survivors had limited knowledge of their location and lacked the necessary tools to navigate the 14,000- Lorenna Mountain, which was approximately 800 meters high. Turcatti, along with three other hikers, Canessa, Antonio Vizintin, and Nando Parrado, successfully completed a two-day expedition to the peak before being unable to return due to an infected wound on his leg. As a result, Turcatti became weaker and weaker by the day.
Despite being resolute in his stance against human flesh consumption, Turcatti was unable to eat it due to his inability to handle it. As a result, he was forced to eat for an extended period and struggled with eating, which only exacerbated his condition.
One of the survivors revealed that Turcatti experienced a heart failure due to an amputation and a lapse in eating habits, resulting in him being Längen in bed with constant food and falling back over his head from the chair.
Turcatti's refusal to consume the flesh of other passengers did not prevent him from consenting to eat his own body for the sake of his friends. However, a note found in his hand after his death contained a biblical verse stating the power of love to save others.
