Is there anything better than delicious fall-off-the-bone crock pot pork ribs?

Slow cooker pork ribs can be prepared in just a few minutes, and are great for those busy and hectic days where you want a delicious home-cooked meal for dinner without spending so much time preparing it.

Using 3 or 4 pounds of pork ribs, some dry rub and some barbecue sauce, you can have delicious and flavorful ribs with minimal ingredients.

Whether you choose to make your own homemade barbecue sauce or make your own dry rub seasoning is up to you, but you can choose to use your favorite store-bought options instead.

Ingredients for Slow Cooker Pork Ribs

    • BBQ Dry Rub
    • BBQ Sauce
    • St. Louis, Spare, or Baby Back pork ribs

How to make this slow cooker ribs recipe:

    1. Take your pork ribs and slice it into 3 sections. This will help it to fit into your crockpot and makes it easier to serve at mealtime.
    2. Rub each section with your dry rub of choice and then stack and layer the pork ribs with barbecue sauce in the crockpot.
    3. Cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 8 hours, and enjoy.

An added tip. If you have time during the preparation and want to do an added step after slicing the ribs, you can try this.

    • Flip the ribs so that the back of them is facing you, showing you the silverskin. This is the membrane on the back that covers the bone and can keep you from getting that fall off the bone result at the end.
    • It can also keep the flavorful seasonings from penetrating the pork ribs.
    • If you don’t want to remove it completely, you can also take a sharp knife and slice it down the silverskin where it is touching the bone, not cutting through the ribs, just that layer.
    • Then as it cooks, it will shrink up just enough to still give you some great results.

Which pork ribs are the best?

St Louis ribs vs baby back ribs

The main differences between these two cuts are the size, price and where they were cut off of the pig. Other than that, they can be used interchangeably, as your budget allows.

Baby back ribs are cut from the rib, where it meets the spine. They are called baby back due to the smaller size of the ribs, not because they come from a baby pig. They are tender, lean and have a higher price tag than a St Louis style rib because they are in higher demand.

St Louis ribs are cut from the front ribs near the belly. These are usually flatter than baby back ribs, and because they have more bone and fat content, they can be much more flavorful when cooked.

No matter which style of pork rib you choose, you can enjoy your crock pot pork ribs just the same!
