British Airways Extends Executive Club Tiers By 12 Months

British Airways has been a bit slow at its response to the Covid-19 pandemic when it comes to blanket Executive Club tier extensions (most airlines already have).

The airline has today decided to extend everyone by 12 months, whose tier collection year ends between July 2020 and June 2021. BA has also decreased the number of Tier Points required for renewals and upgrades in the following qualification period by 25%.

What’s more, it will be even easier to retain your Gold status next time you’re up for renewal, as we’ve decreased the amount of Tier Points needed by 25%. This is the same for upgrade thresholds too, making that next Tier more achievable.

Coronavirus: How the Executive Club is supporting you

We’re adding 12 months extra onto your Executive Club membership – so you have more time to enjoy your benefits, whenever you’re ready to fly.

All members will benefit, starting with those who have a Tier Point collection end date of July 2020, through to June 2021.

What’s more, it will be even easier to retain your status next time you’re up for renewal, as we’ve decreased the amount of Tier Points needed by 25%. This is the same for upgrades thresholds too, making that next Tier more achievable.

This results in lower Tier qualification thresholds, as shown below:

Bronze: 225 Tier Points or 18 eligible flights

Silver: 450 Tier Points or 37 eligible flights

Gold: 1125 Tier Points

To ensure our Members still have the opportunity to use their Gold Upgrade Vouchers, Companion Vouchers and Travel Together Tickets earned via a British Airways credit card, we’ve applied 6-month expiration extension to any current vouchers.

Conclusion

There are no mentions of the Gold Guest List (5,000 initially and 3,000 subsequent) or Concorde Room Card (5,000 yearly) requirements in the coming year or lessening their requirements by that 25% on the page, but just received an email from BA confirming this (at least for renewals) under my account.

This will extend my GGL status through April 30, 2022 (qualification ends sometime in March). I have no upcoming paid trips on the horizon until this Covid-19 nightmare is over, and entry bans have been lifted.

I am not confident if I will continue crediting Oneworld flights to Executive Club once Alaska Airlines has joined the alliance. The number of miles you earn with most partners is, at least for now, much more lucrative on Alaska’s program. I will, however, make sure that I reach the lifetime Gold requirement (35,000 TPs) before (7,500 short) exit.
