Wish (Japanese: ねがいごと Wish) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation III.

Effect

The turn Wish is used, the user will make a wish. At the end of the next turn, the Pokémon in the user's current position will be healed by a certain amount of HP.

Wish can still be used even if the user's HP is full, but it will do nothing if the Pokémon that should be healed has full HP.

A Pokémon affected by Heal Block cannot use Wish. If Wish has already been used but the Pokémon that would be healed is affected by Heal Block, the move will do nothing.

Wish cannot be blocked by Protect.

Generation III

Wish heals the affected Pokémon by half its own maximum HP.

Wish cannot be stolen by Snatch.

Generation IV

Wish will now cast its healing effect before a Pokémon switches in for a Pokémon knocked out in that turn.

Generation V

Wish now heals for half of the user's maximum HP rather than the recipient's.

Wish can now be stolen by Snatch.

Generation VI onwards

Wish can be used as a part of a Contest Spectacular combination, causing Bestow, Fling and Present to give an extra three appeal points if any of them is used in the next turn.

If powered up by a Normalium Z into Z-Wish, the user's Special Defense stat is raised by one stage.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Wish is Umbreon's second move. It is obtained by upgrading Fake Tears into it over Snarl starting at Level 6. Wish is applied to an nearby ally Pokémon, reducing the damage they take until it triggers and restores their HP. If an ally with Wish is knocked out, the wish will move to another nearby ally. If there are no allies in range, Wish simply applies to Umbreon itself. At level 12, it becomes Wish+, boosting both the damage reduction and healing effects.

Clefable's Unite Move, Wonder Wish, has similarities to Wish, similarly healing ally Pokémon, but draws more similarities to Metronome.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In the Rescue Team, Explorers, and Adventure Squad series, the user gains the Wish status for 11-12 turns, increasing natural HP recovery to 3.3% of the Pokémon's maximum HP each turn.

From Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, the user gains the Wish status on the first turn and then recovers 75% of the user's max HP to the user and to all adjacent allies on the next turn.

Trivia

  • In Generation III, the status screen erroneously states that the move has 100% accuracy, even though it targets the user (thus it ignores accuracy and evasion checks).
