Donald Trump is currently preparing for his gala inauguration ceremony that is going to take place on January 20, 2025. Meanwhile, his pet project, Department of Government Efficiency, is receiving rampant support from a majority of Republicans, who are willing to take a huge risk by giving more power to this new federal department by introducing a bill to repeal the Impoundment Control Act.

Is Trump getting more power from Republicans around government spending?

The passing of this bill will give Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the co-heads of DOGE, a better freehand, helping them give better suggestions to the White House about regulating excess government spending. According to a majority of Republicans, this spending cut will help in reducing the national debt of the country, and help keep a check on Congress' spending spree permissions.

According to the Republicans, they are willing to run the risk of giving Trump more power at reducing excess spends, and this can only be possible if they help Musk and Ramaswamy, giving them more liberty to announce various changes in spending structures. The repealing of the Impoundment Control Act could be the first step towards achieving this milestone, as per reports. Meanwhile, trump is no stranger towards the Impoundment Act and knows his way through it quite well, as his fist impeachment proposal was one of the leading examples of utilization of the Act.
