Announcing the IWOMP 2022 CFP

IWOMP 2022The International Workshop on OpenMP (IWOMP) is the annual workshop dedicated to the promotion and advancement of all aspects of parallel programming with the OpenMP API.

IWOMP 2022 will be hosted by the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in the US and will be colocated with EuroMPI 2022. We solicit quality submissions of unpublished technical papers that detail innovative, original research and development related to OpenMP programming and its use in applications.

Submission deadline: May 13, 2022

Join the ECP OpenMP Virtual Hackathon 2022

ECP HACKATHONIn this OpenMP virtual hackathon, developers and application teams will use the latest OpenMP API functionality to accelerate their code with the use of GPUs to target multiple platforms.

This event is organized by Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in conjunction with three other national labs (ANL, ORNL, and LLNL), and it is sponsored by the Exascale Computing Project (ECP), and driven by the ECP SOLLVE Project.

You can contact Dossay Oryspayev at if you would like to join the hackathon, even if the deadline date on the website may have passed.

Event date: April 813.

Webinar on porting large-scale materials science codes to GPUs

WEBINARJoin us on April 20 for a webinar on the BerkeleyGW Case Study. BerkeleyGW is a massively parallel software package employed to study the excited state properties of electrons in materials by using GW, Bethe-Salpeter Equation (BSE) methods, and more. In this case study, BerkeleyGW was ported to three different GPU programming models with various GPU vendor architectures.

Presented by Mauro Del Ben of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.

Online study of parallel programmers

UNB STUDYDo you have experience in parallel programming in C using OpenMP 4.0 directives?

If so, then you can help a computer science PhD student by participating in an online study on mental representations of parallel programmers. Understanding these representations is important for developing programming languages and tools that enhance and assist programmers.

Depending on where you live, you may receive a CAD $10 gift card for your time. The study takes approximately 60 minutes and needs to be completed on a desktop or laptop computer (not a handheld device). For more information please contact the principal investigator: Leah Bidlake ([email protected]). This project has been reviewed by the Research Ethics Board of the University of New Brunswick and is on file as REB#2021-014.
Seminar: OpenMP 5.x and Beyond

SEMINARThe full performance of contemporary HPC systems can only be achieved if all levels of parallelism within the node are exploited: from multiple sockets and cores, over vector and acceleration units, to the memory hierarchy.

This 1-hour talk from Christian Terboven, "
OpenMP 5.x and Beyond: Node-Level Parallel Programming in the Exascale Era," examines the  research activities of RWTH’s HPC group and the resulting extensions incorporated into standards and tools, such as the OpenMP API. We will also review closely related topics such as the tool-supported correctness analysis of parallel programs.

Date/Time:
March 28 at 3:00pm CEST | 13:00 UTC

GPU virtual programming bootcamp

GPU HACKATHONA two-day GPU programming bootcamp, organized by the Portuguese EuroCC National Center of Competence. Participants will learn about multiple GPU programming models and can choose the one that best fits their needs to run their scientific codes on GPUs.

Dates: Application deadline is March 29. Event dates are April 13
14.
Iterative Linear Solvers and Parallelization course

IHRIn this course, the focus is on different modern Krylov Subspace Methods (CG, GMRES, BiCGSTAB ...) as well as highly efficient preconditioning techniques, presented in the context of real life applications using MPI, the shared memory directives of the OpenMP API, and the parallel middleware PETSc.
