“Absolutely Spring quarter 2019, which I spent in the ZooBot program at Friday Harbor Labs! Being in the San Juans and being able to physically collect the organisms we studied in lab was incredible. My classmates from that quarter will be my friends for life! It’s such a wonderful, amazing place and I know I’ll be back there sooner rather than later…”

“Some of the best memories I had while in this program were made at the Friday Harbor Labs. Sharing beautiful moments night lighting on the dock, collecting nudibranch, and sitting around a campfire surrounded by students and faculty who share an equal passion for the ocean are a few things I will never forget.”

“Being able to study at Friday Harbor Labs and meeting such great people while there and in the Marine Biology Program just in general. Going out of my comfort zone and getting to explore the islands from “climbing” Mount Constitution (we drove up it) to chasing orcas around the San Juan. And especially getting swept up in the confusion of everything with everyone. It was a wild ride and one I wouldn’t trade for the world.”

“My favorite memory was when I saw wild orcas for the first time. We were out conducting a seabird survey aboard the Centennial at Friday Harbor and stumbled upon two killer whales. It was both a thrilling and humbling experience that serves as a constant reminder for why I chose to go into this field.”

“There are way too many…I absolutely loved working with SeaDawgs senior year and being able to form a stronger bond with the program through that. Also can’t not mention that spending a quarter at Friday Harbor Labs made me feel so happy and connected to marine science, it is without a doubt that FHL is a very special place, and the laughs and memories I had up there are some of the best!”

“My favorite experience of the program was getting close with students and some faculty as well. Being a transfer student I was very nervous coming to UW, but the Marine Bio family welcomed me with open arms. The faculty are all very approachable and kind, Joe made transferring credits and signing up for courses a piece of cake, and all of the students made me feel like I had found a home at UW. Wouldn’t haven’t wanted to end my college experience any other way!”
