Whispering Hope

from Whispering Hope by Mathew Joseph

/

about

A classical guitar instrumental arrangement of the well known and much loved hymn written in 1868 by Septimus Winner under the pseudonym Alice Hawthorne. The melody soars gently, "soft as the voice of an angel", as it sings out it's comforting, encouraging message of hope in these times of great stress for all of mankind. The aged cedar top, nylon string classical guitar lends a sweetness to the arrangement that blends in with the arpeggiated harmonies to orchestrate a choir of classical guitars in unison.

lyrics

Soft as the voice of an angel,
Breathing a lesson unheard,
Hope with a gentle persuasion,
Whispers her comforting word.

Wait till the darkness is over,
Wait till the tempest is done.
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
After the shower is gone.

(Chorus)
Whispering hope,
O how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.

If in the dusk of the twilight,
Dim be the region afar.
Will not the deepening darkness,
Brighten the shimmering star?

Then when the night is upon us,
Why should the heart sink away?
When the dark night is over,
Watch for the breaking of day.

(Chorus)
Whispering hope,
O how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.
