Art mediums to try
Wax Art: From Ancient Civilizations To Modern Masterpieces
The first time I came across wax as an art medium was when I got my first apartment. I was looking for cheap ways to decorate that still offered that personal touch. I came across this video of melted crayon art.
I went to the dollar store, and got some crayons and a canvas. With the help of my hairdryer, I made an art piece that looked like the night sky and used the empty crayons as a plant holder for some dried plants. I have moved multiple times since then and no longer have this piece of art. But this was where my fascination for wax as an art medium started.
Wax as an art medium has a rich and varied history, with its use dating back to ancient civilizations. One of the oldest surviving examples of encaustic painting, a technique in which pigments are mixed with hot wax, is a portrait of a woman from the 1st century AD. It has been used for everything from intricate sculptures to paintings. Today, it is still a popular medium for artists, with its versatility and ability to capture fine details making it a favourite among many.
