This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. 'If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Please summarize your request in the "summary".

Gothic Wikipedia

I request administrator access to the Gothic Wikipedia, as it seems the wiki is in a state disrepair and I do not see administrators active. The project is in need of translations such as those I did for the Gothic Uncyclopedia. I would also like to update the main page because it is not in 100% Gothic. In addition the wiki has spam pages that need to be deleted, some pages locked, other created and locked, and an updated look.

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Arabic Wikipedia

Hi, Iam user Tarawneh [4] from ar wiki. I resigned from Bureaucrat, checkuser, and Sysop lists in ar wiki a few months ago, according to policy the other checkuser ar:user:chaos was removed from the checkuser list [5], now ar wiki has new checkusers, and hence no reason , by policy , exists to keep chaos away from his rights. I had a chat with Cary, he agreed and he advised me to post a request here.

  • Language Code: ar
  • previous request, and grant of rights for chaos: [6]
  • Local User Page: ar:User:chaos

Thank you. --Tarawneh 23:52, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, while you at it, please remove the sysop and checkuser status of Felagund who has retired (see diff). Thanks, Yonidebest 17:36, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done for all three.--Shanel 17:45, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note in English on your local user talk page. This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Simple English Wikipedia

Incubator

I am SPQRobin, a sysop at the Incubator. Please remove the admin acces of the following two "test administrators". The policy at Incubator says "Test administrators will be desysopped after a year or after a domain request for their langauge is completed." These admins their test languages have now their own subdomain (see the links).

Do you need more information, or is it ok? Thank you, SPQRobin 15:45, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Uyghur Wikipedia

I would like administrative access to the Uyghur wikipedia for the User Arken. There is only one other admin, and he claims to no little or no Uyghur.

Two other things that I think need help from a different place also need to be done. Can anybody redirect me to where I could ask about adding extra tabs as was done in the Kazakh Wikipedia (see kk.wikipedia.org). Also, we don't call our language: Oyghurque, where can I get help changing that.

  • Language Code:ug
  • Local Request Link:n/a
  • Local User Page:[8]

Thank you. --Arken (June 19 2007)

Ok, but you haven't demonstrated any kind of need for someone to be made sysop temporarily, without community endorsement. In order for this to be granted, we need a compelling reason. If there is no specific, urgent need for this, I would ask that you seek community approval for your intended status, and once you obtain it, we can grant you permanent access. As for your question, see if this similar question (and answer) would help. Regards, Redux 17:42, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cherokee Wikipedia

I request temporary sysop access for the User:Cherokeekid at the Cherokee Wikipedia. I would like to cosmetically clean up the main page, and delete spam. There are four other admins, but they are all inactive.

  • Language Code:chr
  • Local Request Link: [9] (Inactive)
  • Local User Page:[10]

Thank you. --Cherokeekid (June 18 2007)

SE Asia Wikibooks

Khmer and Myanmar Wikibooks have no active users, only the index.php spambot stuff to clean up. I volunteer to cleanup them, but need admin rights to be able to stop it maybe.

Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary (neo-Melanesian language)

I request sysop access to revise, upgrade, and update the Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary, both to reinvigorate the two, and as an active part of WikiProject Melanesia.  The only Tok Pisin administrator has been inactive there since 23 December 2006.

I have extensive professional (i.e., paid) experience in software development and programming, Internet and corporate intranet web design and server maintenance, and many years in technical writing.  I grew up in Polynesia (Hawai'i), and have sailed as a merchant mariner in Micronesia (Marshall Islands), Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and am very familiar with the cultures of Oceania.  I'd like to use my experience and technical abilities to help make the Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary useful resources for both the Melanesian-region Tok Pisin community, and as my contribution to WikiProject Melanesia.

Thank you. K. Kellogg-Smith 12:29, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give me a better idea of what you'd do with sysop status on these two wikis? (eg. translate the interface, delete spam, etc.)--Shanel 04:00, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Burmese Wikipedia

I request temporary three-month sysop access for User:Evertype on Burmese Wikipedia. The reason given by him is: "I am an admin on the Irish wikipedia and am willing to serve in a similar function here [Burmese Wikipedia], particularly with regard to assisting with the encoding changeover."

Thankyou. --Jose77 07:47, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure how long "temporary" lasts, but the reason we need help on the Burmese Wikipedia is a major change that has to happen regarding the Unicode encoding model changeover for Burmese. Htoo Myint Naung has been made sysop already, and when I am, we are prepared to start the changeover work. Evertype 09:15, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Three months is fine. I assume it could be extended if we found that necessary? Indefinite would be fine with me though. Evertype 09:46, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Miscellaneous requests

Requests that don't fit in other sections belong here. Note that the following types of requests belong on separate pages: bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and requests for CheckUser queries.

Multiproject blocking

Someone currently on the IP 72.16.48.162 is harassing me through emailing me and has recently started up on the good old password resetting. No constructive edits have come from this IP.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 00:55, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So, you're asking us to block that ip manually within the 200 different wkis? drini [es:] [commons:] 12:52, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the past, devs have mass-blocked IP's on all wikis - I just can't remeber how. TheFearow 21:20, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Import group

Hey, I am en:User:TheFearow, and I am requesting that I am temporarily added to the "import" group on mediawiki.org. I want to help out with the many pages needing transferral from meta. I assume that I need a stewards help rather than a local bureaucrat, as adding to a diff group requires access to Special:Userrights (and thats steward-only, at least with the defaults on my wiki). Also, before someone says, I know you normally need Sysop, however mediawiki also has a seperate import group. Thanks! 125.236.192.172 12:25, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note, this is me. Thanks! TheFearow 21:29, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought Import group was to import XML data, not to import pages from other wikis. Also, a page showing support from the local community is needed. guillom 14:32, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I assume it is for Special:Import, which is a method of transwiki. Also, there isn't really a local community - the community is split between here and there. TheFearow 02:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know what transwiki import is, I just thought the Import group was only for XML import. Anyway, I have checked and the import group allow you to both import from XML files or through transwiki method. I still wish to see support from people from this wiki. There are many sysops, you will certainly be able to get support from some of them. guillom 10:12, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have asked an admin to comment here, so I guess i'll either wait for their reply or ask another if they don't reply soon. TheFearow 21:07, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have been talking to robchurch (a dev, and local sysop/crat) and I believe this will be sorted out locally, with plain sysop access. If this is the case, I will post again here to close this request. In the meantime, consider the request on hold. TheFearow 04:50, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am now a sysop on mw.org, please close this request (i would do it myself, but i'm not that familiar with what is required). TheFearow 05:02, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Account usurpation on kab.wikipedia.org

Kabyle Wikipedia was recently created, but there is one person which has already got the idea to:

  1. create there an account with my username,
  2. build pages as if they were created by the real Hégésippe Cormier,
  3. and has probably the idea, later, to make some vandal actions with that account.

The probability that this person is already known is very high: some false accounts of this kind were already created, for example fot the account Zyxwvut-Bot on Napolitan Wikipedia, etc. My requests are:

  1. make a check-user investigation (account creation and pages are not so old) in order to know the IP address(es) used for those bad actions and give the informations,
  2. rename the account 'Hégésippe Cormier' on kab.wikipedia.org, for example as 'Former usurpated account', and then block the renamed account,
  3. delete the false pages w:kab:User:Hégésippe Cormier and w:kab:User talk:Hégésippe Cormier (or the renamed pages and the possible redirects staying in the former pages),
  4. allow me to create the real 'Hégésippe Cormier' account on kab.wikipedia.org.

Thanks a lot. smiley Hégésippe | ±Θ± 19:07, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

guillom 09:59, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Username change

Hi, I recently registered my current username. I'd like to usurp the name George here on meta, as it doesn't appear to have ever been used here, and in order to match my username on the English Wikipedia and Wikinews sites. George.Saliba 11:20, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can request this at Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Bureaucrats can carry out name changes, and there are several on Meta (see the list of bureaucrats), so a steward isn't needed. Picaroon (Talk) 03:59, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! George.Saliba 10:23, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wiktionary Portuguese

I request new namespaces for Wiktionary in Portuguese. That they are:

  • "Apêndice:" and "Apêndice Discussão:" (that are correspondings to "Appendix:" and "Appendix talk:" of the English Wiktionary);
  • "Vocabulário:" and "Vocabulário Discussão:" (that are correspondings to "Index:" and "Index talk:" of the English Wiktionary);
  • "Rimas:" and "Rimas Discussão:" (that are correspondings to "Rhymes:" and "Rhymes talk:" of the English Wiktionary);
  • "Portal:" and "Portal Discussão:" (that are correspondings to "Portail:" and "Discussion Portail:" of the French Wiktionary).
