Hi Sonya, I do not call You a vandal or anything like it. I am a bit dissapointed though, I thouhgt You understand, that it is really not acceptable to have English or empty pages in non-English Wikipedias. Imagine You bought a book in English and every second page is either empty or in a language You don't understand...

I like Enya too, a lot actually, she is a positive person. I don't like seeing superstubs in English about her in lots of other language-Wikipediae.

I was hopeing You would understand and am sorry to find out You do not.

I don't like people not being honest. As You can see in the vandalism report the IP address added lots of empty or English pages in non-English Wikipediae, so did the other accounts, some are not yet listed there.

You should know that we can see which users are behind accounts if there is vandalism, which there was. It is senseless to deny that, because we know.

As stated above I did close the other two of You here already, namely Glitter1959 and Dancinfool610.

Also I would like to add, that there can be no clearing of Your name since You did not stop with adding those English/or empty articles cross-wiki.

I was hoping that You would understand after I did really try to explain to You several times why that can't be accepted, and I am seriously disappointed in Your behaviour.

There is no missunderstanding. As I said, I do not think I do know and I will not give You details about the how.

But I do not even mind if You don't admit that here, that is not my point. The point is the cross-wiki adding of these articles, which has not stopped even after our last conversation, where I thought You had understood that it is not acceptable to do that.

Additionally I do not believe You that all photos (if any) are Yours because I have found some of Your uploads on copyrighted internet-sites.

I doubt that I have any further to add to this matter.

Hola, mi nombre es Astur(verify) y soy usuariu de la Wikipedia en Asturiano Asturian Uiquipedia. Mi nombre en Commons es Astur1 (verify) porque no puedo registrame como Astur. Auto numbering in Gujarati script

Hi Birdy, Here I am back.. I wanted to know whether is there anyway to enable Gujarati numbering system for Autonumbering? I mean, when we use hash (#) sign for autonumbering, wiki inserts numbers in english scripts, while we already haev Gujarati numbers corresponding the roman scripts. Will I need to translate the numbers on translate.wiki somewhere or its a modification of script somewhere like monobook.js?--Dhaval 12:04, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dsvyas, I understand what You mean, but I am really sorry, I asked the betawiki developers and they told me, that, these numbers are not generated by the wikimedia-software but by the browsers, therefore can only be fixed by the browser developers.

I can't think of a workaround but to insert the numbers by hand :( :૧. and so on :(

Upload File Link

Hi, as I promised, I am back. :), I noticed that for last sometime the link to 'Upload File' on Navigation Bar (left) is leading to this article instead of the form to upload file. I checked in monobook.js but couldn't find any link there for either of these. Can you reckon where this have been gone missing?--Dhaval 15:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

there should be modified to, perhaps:

But I encourage You and the community there to use that seldom but instead to upload images to commons: because then the images can be used everywhere also the admins there have a much better experience in licences etc.

Thanks Birdy, I agree with you for uploading images on Commons, I even tried doing so, but the problem arrises with 'limited use' images, In fact, I had to copy some of the images from commons to gu.wiki, as I couldn't embed images by just typing the file name. Only those images work wchich are marked in public domain. If there is any other way to add images apart from Image:Filename.jpg do let me know.--Dhaval 16:44, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh, which images did not work, they should all.

Commons takes images not only with the public domain licence but also other free licences such as GFDL, cc-by-sa, etc.

As for the unfree images I would like to point You to this message by Timichal, which is affecting 1:1 gu.wiki too.

I do not quite understand the question: If there is any other way to add images apart from Image:Filename.jpg do let me know

(I normally just copy the image name from commons and putt [[]] around it, example: [[Image:Rauðbeyki-Fagus sylvatica-1a 02.jpg]])

Oh Birdy, there are many Images that didn't work, I uploaded a few last week in commons, and tried to link them for our local POTD, but only one that I had assigned to public domain worked adn others I had to import in gu.wiki as well. to give you a fresh example, I uploaded this and have a link for the image with exactly the same name and exactly as what you have been doing and what I have been doing for other pages on this article on Saputara in gu.wiki. You can see yourself how the image is shown there. Sorry, it worked in this instance, will let you know a specific example where I fail.--Dhaval 22:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Ah, now I see the problem, the images that did not work might have been deleted, please always give the licence and source for that image, there is a template when You upload which You can simply fill out.

This is one of the reasons why images should go to commons: they check if they are licenced correctly, if they aren't they are problematic because could be a copyright violation and thuss harming the Wikimedia-Foundation.

Hi Birdy, No I am sure the problem with those images not being displayed in gu.wiki was not at all with their being deleted from commons, they are still there. Now I think that the problem I was facing was especially when I was creating the Potd templates. Is it possible that the images from commons will play around if you make templates using them (depending upon their licencing)? I must get back to you with a specific example next time I face it.

I agree with you fully that the images should be uploaded on commons, and the most imporatant reason for that is in gu.wiki there is no licensing options while uploading the images. In this case, would you agree with me to Link commons: with 'Upload file' on gu?--Dhaval 11:58, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, sorry, I somehow missed this answer. Please can You give an example of such an image. I have never heard of something like it. I could only think about an svg-file whith an error in the xml, then the image is sometimes not shown.

Sorry but this can't be taken serious, it is not possible to "rename" You from an IP address. You have to create an account. Also the English-language-Wikipedia has enough bureaucrats to rename users... Since You pasted that strange thing even in an redirect, i saw that as "test edit".

Enable Laos in the text box

I have found the problem, that many Laos are using Windows XP, which does not have Laos Keyboard support even they have Laos Unicode Support - they can't type Laos. Actually, not many people in Laos are using computer. Most of them that have chance to use computer use XP. In Gujarati Wikipedia, we can type Gujarati in the text box. Hi Passawuth, You will need a JavaScript like gu:MediaWiki:Translit.js (You can start creating one in lo:User:Passawuth/translit.js) and then need to ask the admin to add the script in lo:ຜູ້ໃຊ້:Spacebirdy/monobook.js in the lo:MediaWiki:Monobook.js (You can try first in lo:User:Passawuth/monobook.js until it works)

Special:Allpages

Hi Birdy, This time a new kind of question. While performing search on gu:Special:Allpages like gu:Special:Allpages/અ it should as such only list pages that start with alphabet અ, but it lists all the pages starting with this letter and all the letters in the alphabet thereafter. Now this is the first alphabet of our Gujarati script, so ultimately it lists all the pages there are on gu.wiki. Similarly if I perform search for gu:Special:Allpages/ક, it will ommit pages between અ and ક, ann list remaining pages, i.e. all the one that start with letter ક and remaining. where અ is a firlst vowel and hence first letter of the alphabet, while ક is the first consonant, which follows the vowels in alphabets. Yes, in fact, this is what it is supposed to do. If You search beginning with અ it finds everything after અ that includes also the words coming afterwards. The letter indicates only the starting point, it does not restrict the displaying to this one letter. I don't know of any workaround for this, sorry

You have lots of possibilities for this. You could consider deactivating special:upload for normal users and activate it for sysops only. We use this on es.wiktionary. This has to be requested at bugzilla:

You could set

to (commons: in front of Special:)

You could add an extra link that links to commons and leave the default one linking to the special:upload locally, see gu:User:Spacebirdy/monobook.js

Laos Wiktionary logo

Liebe Voëltjie, ich habe 'ne kniffelige frage. Wie ich dir früher mal zu erklären versuchte, gibt es bei den "bantu"sprachen keine flektierenden endsilben, sondern vorsilben (primitiv ausgedrückt). Also statt wie im spanischen: sombrero (sg), sombreros (pl.), wo die endung sich jeweils ändert (hier "-o", "os"), heißt es im Zulu iviki (sg), amaviki (pl) (iviki = woche). Die "endungen" sind immer vorne. Iviki kommt aus dem afrikaansen "week". Im zuluwörterbuch steht es unter "v", da das anfangs-"i" nur der klassenpräfix ist. Der vokativ von "iviki" lautet zum beispiel "viki".

Wenn ich also ein zb das xhosa word "iavokado" (avokado) hinzufüge, muss ich es als avokado aufnehmen, damit es unter "a" landet, und nicht unter "i". Das wort utata (vater) als tata, da es unter "t" kommen muss,…

Wenn ich nun http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/Kategorie:Woorde_in_Xhosa betrachte, so sieht es sau blöde aus, die jeweiligen wörter ohne präfixe zu sehen, dass heißt statt "utata", nur "tata", statt "iavokado", nur "avokado",.... Ich glaube aber, dass es möglich ist, "utata" unter "t" einzugliedern. Denn hier in http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:All_languages wird zum beispiel "Ancient Greek language" und "Mycenaean Greek language" unter "G" eingeordnet.

But it’s not as simple as that ((: Manchmal erhält ein “wortstamm” verschiedene klassenpräfixe, zum beispiel: "isiSuthu" (die sotho sprache), "umSuthu" (der sotho) [daher beide formen in http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/Suthu], oder "indoda" (mann), "ubudoda" (männlichkeit). [beide in http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/doda]

Ist es also möglich, wörter so einzugeben, dass

1) zum beispiel in http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/Kategorie:Woorde_in_Venda das wort "musadzi" unter "s" steht (http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/sadzi) ?

2) zum beispiel in http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/Kategorie:Woorde_in_Zoeloe "isiSuthu" und "umSuthu", beide getrennt unter "s" aufscheinen, obwohl sie beide zusammen auf der page http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/Suthu stehen, weil ja "isi-" und "um-" nur verschiedene klassenpräfixe zum selben wortstamm sind. ?

3) in http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/Kategorie:Woorde_in_Suid-Sotho muss das wort "metsi" unter "i" steht (http://af.wiktionary.org/wiki/itsi), da es eigentlich "ma-itsi" ist ("ma-" ist pluralpräfix, "itsi" das grundwort, wobei aber das "a" von "ma-" und das "i" von "itsi" zu "e" verschmolzen ist, d.h "ma-itsi" > "metsi") ?

OK, werde bei den nächsten fragen wieder an gewohnter stelle fragen. Natürlich, wann immer du zeit hast. Was ich mir jedoch dachte: es wäre vielleicht besser, die lemmata mit ihren präfixen zusammen zu erfassen, aber dass sie dann in der alphabetischen liste dann unter dem anfangsbuchstaben des grundwortes eingereiht werden. Damit bliebe nur frage 1) übrig. D.h. dass ich zum beispiel "metsi" und "umSuthu" als isiSotho und umSotho erfasse (getrennt, als zwei pages), sie aber beide in der alphabetischen liste unter "s" stehen. Uff, ich glaube ich verstehe, was Du meinst, aber das geht meines Wissens nach nicht:

ad.1) Du kannst ein Wort unter einem anderen Buchstaben einsortieren, aber das Wort selbst wird immer dem Lemma gleichen unter welchem es eingetragen ist.

Mir fiele schon etwas ein, aber das wuerde ich als "dirty hack" bezeichnen. Scheinbar werden - nach Buchstaben gereiht, dh. wenn Du sie unter dem gleichen Namen einsortierst, in diesem Fall Xhosa, dann kommen zuerst die Buchstaben alphabetisch, dann die Bindestriche, wenn man jedoch gemeinerweise das letzte a bei [Kategorie:...|Xhosa] wegnimmt, dann wird "Xhos" vor "Xhosa" sortiert, dh. wenn Du das bei den Eintraegen mit Bindestrich so machst, werden sie vorher eingereiht. :( Irgendwie ist das nicht so toll. Kategorien finde ich extrem muehsam, unhandlich und eckig, ich aergere mich schon gar nicht mehr darueber, dass man immer noch die alphabetische Reihenfolge nicht aendern kann (waere fuer so viele Projekte wichtig)...

Dzongkha Wikipedia (dz)

Thank you for reverting User:Donuttowanoon's edits. He is annoying and semi-vandalising. He adds spam links in Thai Wikipedia and was blocked several times. Moreover, he did not put Dzongkha texts on the main page ([5]), but he put Thai texts on the main page - which directly copy from Thai Wikipedia's main page without editing anything at all. He is a Thai, which unable to speak Dzongkha, but he went there as if he is a native user. Please block him on that Wikipedia. Hello, I was simply tallying votes -- sometimes in that nomination sequence the images get discussed and voted on and they need to be manually moved off the page and processed. I did not know anything about the photographer nor the passing away of the photographer until I was processing stuff there. It might be better to inform the person who nominated the image commons:User:Arria Belli. I almost attempted to pass the information along -- but I know so little about everything; starting with the nomination of the image.

Policy Issue

Hi Birdy, I don't know whether this is a right place to ask, but as you might be aware I am a temporary sysop for gu: and trying to build as well as maintain the growing community there. Recently we have a user contributing in a great extent, but what I have realised is that, he is copying the content form other websites and pasting it to create new pages in gu.wiki. In some cases, he acknowledges the source but not in all.

I tried to browse through guide to admin (administrator school, etc.), but think it doesn't state about such things. I think it shouldn't be allowed as this might be a copyright violation, and even if it's not, why to copy the exact text which is already existing somewhere else and put it in wiki. Shall I warn the User to stop doing it or shall I allow him to do so as he is acknowledging the source? Please advise...--Dhaval^talk 12:50, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

That sounds bad, please check the site he copies from, maybe it is free content, although I very much doubt that. Also if it is a free licence e.g. GFDL You have to give the source and the authors, if You copy such.

I fear You will have to delete his contributinos and if he continues even after You warned and explained him, You will have to block him.

We had a similar case on de.wikt, someone contributing a lot for years and then we found out he copied another site 1:1, we had to delete hundereds of entries.

Always sad when people do that, copying is forbidden it is said so underneath every edit window.

Yes, as obvious the site is copyrighted and hence as the person has been copying whole of the articles (sometimes a few paragraphs to few pages) and pasteing them on gu:. Why are all good articles always deleted and called tests, on any Wikimedia project, I mean really, especially when you spend 9 hours translating the article you made from English to Portuguese or some other damn language, I mean really, a test? Es kann doch nicht sein, dass jemand auf sv.wq meine Identität klaut und niemand kann etwas dagegen unternehmen. Ich habe Thuresson jetzt nochmal angesprochen. In ja.wp warte ich mal ab, vielleicht passiert ja noch etwas. Wie ich mit ko.wp weiter vorgehe, weiss ich noch nicht. Eine automatische Problemlösung mag ja irgendwann in ein paar Jahren kommen, aber wie die aussehen wird, weiss letztendlich noch niemand. Es ist leider wirklich so, dass wir in einem solchen Fall nichts machen können, haette er mit dem Account vandaliert, waere es kein Problem gewesen. Solltes Du einmal SUL aktivieren können (sobald es eben fuer alle freigeschaltet ist), wird der globale Account vermutlich Dir zugeordnet, auszer jemand hat irgendwo mehr Beitraege mit dem Konto I. Tatsaechlich gibt es viele, die genau das selbe Problem haben und bereits SUL haben. Wir können nicht Zwangsverschieben, das muss durch die Software gelöst werden. Wenn der globale Account aktiv ist und noch ein paar Wikis mit solchen Accounts existieren, funktioniert er trotzdem, das ist m.E. das Wichtiste, lG. --birdy geimfyglið _(:> )=| ∇ 14:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Aber es ist eine offene Frage, ob er mit dem Account vandaliert hat. Der Account hat drei Edits getätigt:

• Der erste Edit war das Einsetzen eines {delete}-Templates in den Artikel [Wikipedia]. Dieser Artikel besteht bereits seit 2 Jahren und es gibt ihn auch in vielen anderen wq-Sprachprojekten. Eine Begründung für den Löschantrag wurde (obwohl gefordert) nicht gegeben. Auch wurde der Löschantrag, obwohl inzwischen einen Monat alt, nicht bearbeitet. Einen unsinnigen, unvollständigen Löschantrag gegen einen zentralen Artikel eines Projekts zu stellen, scheint mir durchaus ein Akt des Vandalismus zu sein.
• Der zweite Edit war auf meiner Benutzer-Diskussions-Seite, also für das Projekt schon mal nicht weiter relevant, und diente dazu sich über mich lustig zu machen.
• Der dritte Edit war eine Ergänzung des Artikels [Jan Björklund] um ein Zitat einschließlich einer korrekten Quellenangabe. Oberflächlich ein absolut korrekter Edit, der zwar meiner Meinung nach nur zur Absicherung eines Vandalen-Accounts dient, aber das ist erst mal nur meine interpretation. sv.wq ist ein kleines Projekt und scheint, so weit ich sehe, keine Seite [wikiquote:Was Wikiquote nicht ist] zu haben und auch viele andere Meta-Seiten scheint es nicht zu geben. Behelfsweise ziehe ich daher für eine Beurteilung die entsprechenden Meta-Seiten von de.wq heran. So heisst es in de.wq beispielsweise, dass ein Zitat nicht länger als 4 Sätze sein soll. Das Björklund-Zitat umfasst aber 7 lange Sätze. Auch handelt es sich um eine sehr kürzliche Aussage von ihm, so dass es eher zweifelhaft ist, dass das schon ein "Klassiker" ist. Vielmehr handelt es sich um einen Redeausschnitt aus einer Rede im Parlament, die auf Vorreden reagiert und von Nachreden beantwortet wird. Ich spreche kein Schwedisch, aber es gibt ja Online-Übersetzer, für Schwedisch ist das http://www.systran.de Die Übersetzung dieses Zitats ergibt übliches Politsprech - in diesem Fall über Schulfragen. Ich erkenne hier keine herausragende zitierwürdige Äusserung.

Sobald man darueber streiten muss, ob es nun Vandalismus ist oder nicht, geht das einfach nicht. Er hat das natuerlich gemacht um Dich zu aergern, aber auf eine Art und Weise, die keine Handlung zulaesst. Wie gesagt, stehst Du mit genau diesem Problem nicht alleine da, es gibt hunderte solcher Faelle, das ist der Grund, warum es einer softwareseitigen Lösung bedarf.

Einzige derzeitige Möglichkeit einer Umbenennung: die lokale Gemeinschaft stimmt dem zu. (scheint leider nicht so wahrscheinlich, da ja offenbar jemand aus dieser Gemeinschaft Dich aergern wollte)

Nad / Nadina - please help

Hello, Birdy (still havent thanked you for your support on my RfA on Commons: thanks!)

I have a very kind request to help my friend bg:User:Nad / here: User:Nadina, who is struggling with the SUL. I am trying to help her, but her case needs expert help and more attention.

Two days ago she reserved SUL Nad for her. But tris seemed to be a mistake since she came into a conflict with a mediawiki developer, who owns this accound "Nad" on en:, mediawiki: and meta: I made a contact between them (she doesnt know English) and the guy said that actually not only that he would not like to give the name to her, but he even wants it for himself. After some considerations she agreed to allow him use this account for himself. Now she wants to have her accounts migrated to Nadina. For this sake, several renames Nad->Nadina have to be made in order to liberate the old account for the other guy, and several usurpations, as well. On User:Nadina there are 2 lists.

The problem which just appeared after she got the global account deleted, is that she cannot enter some projects, for instance pl:User:Nad where she even has a contribution. We feel absolutely helpless in this mess, she even more, because relies on me for the language. Please, help us. It is very difficult to figure out the exact consequence of actions needed to be done in order not to make the situation even more sticky. Yeah, thank you, if you dont mind, can we continue communicating here. (I really think that it would be better if only one steward handles the whole case, it's complex enough :-) ) We'll follow your advise about trying to get new passwords, and completing the list. So far, Nad reports that she can only enter the BG WP and SR WP where she holds the accounts from the times before SUL. The automatically created ones cannot be accessed, we're still waiting for a new pass from PL WP, it's getting quite a bit delay... Bug report? Hm, sounds unpleasant but maybe necessary. Especially in cases of meaningful contributions made after automatic account creation.

Actually, Nad only bothers about the projects where she has such meaningful contribs: BG WP and SR WP as User:Nad, and EN WP and Commons as User:Nad_bg. And of course usurping the Nadina accounts where registered and getting SUL for Nadina. Can you help for this, or it strictly depends on solving the rest of the issues? News: my friend tried to have new passwords emailed from PL WP and MK WP, where she got automatically created accounts as Nad, after the SUL. Both projects returned message that there is no email attached to this account. We'll continue with the rest, but I suppose the result will be the same. It seems that the password/email has disappeared with the deletion of the global account. Anyway, this is going to be a problem of the future owner of the account :-) can we now secure at least the Nadina SUL? Spiritia 13:13, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I have tested this now, and made a bug report, please see bugzilla:14330. With this testaccount I managed to get the passwords via the recovery, but that really is a bug. After the deletion the password of the global should work.

Look also in the spamfolder for the email, if she has no valid email or the email got lost too, this is a real problem,

She could try unifying the accounts under Nad again and then try to login (I fear it won't work either), but maybe worth a try.

I guess we have to wait for what the devs find ot at bug 14330 ;( .

@Renaming Nad and Nad_bg to Nadina, please make sure (to avoid further problems) the name is not widely taken already.

Well, depends on how we define "widely taken". :-) For me it is not, but a steward may have more considerations. Please, look at the first table in User:Nadina. The account has been registered on 11 projects, but only 3 minor contributions were made only one of those. Only in one case email was given for contact. Some of the accounts were registered long-long ago and never used. In general, the languages and dates of registrations are very diverse, there is a very tiny probability for coincidence between all ppl who have ever registered them, having in mind they've made no contribs, I think that there will be no opposition again usurpation. With this respect Nadina was the least conflicting account among all which we considered this morning: Nadia, Nadya, Nadin, Nadd, Nada, Надя... Sounds like a green light. Well, then, I'd like to ask you for deleting the global account Nad_bg. 3 automatic registrations were made from it - on de:, ru: and bg: but we will forget about them, only commons: and en: matter.

And let's summarise in order not to make a mistake or miss an important step: 1. We have to ask for renaming Nad -> Nadina on BG WP and SR WP, and Nad_bg -> Nadina on EN WP and Commons. 2. Make 11 local requests to have the account Nadina liberated on the 11 projects listed. 3. And after we get all these requests fulfilled (or rejected :-) ) a SUL has to be performed. Is everything right?

Birdy, dear, we have a problem again. Do you have the possibility to check which is the authentic home wiki of Nadina and the compatibility of these accounts, please. Yesterday the final of her usurpations were completed, and this morning she tried to perform a successful SUL. But although the the SUL tool says bgwiki_p is her home wiki, whenevr she initiates SUL, it says it the home wiki is arabic wikipedia and recongises only 4 wikis, matching by password (bs, it, sl and bgwikiquote, created today for test purposes). The common thing about these is the fact that they are her most recently usurped wikis (ar, bs, it, sl) and the last manually created. However, she declares that all the accounts have the same passwords and emails. Here is a screenshot in English for you to check. The problem occurs from any wiki she tries to use as starting point for SUL, the system simply ignores the accounts on Bulgarian WP and the rest wikis that were authentically hers, as well as the rest 7 usurped accounts... She does not dare to proceed after this step. Can you give some advise? Maybe this is a new bug... →Spiritia 11:24, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Frage zu SUL/Steward-Anfrage

dass ich dir auf deutsch schreiben kann, macht die Sache schonmal viel leichter - die ganze Geschichte ist komplizierter als gedacht :-)

Also, zur Frage: Um meinen Account auf en:WP umbenennen zu können, wollte ich meinen globalen auf der Seite für Steward-Anfragen löschen lassen. Dann habe ich von diesem Bug gelesen, der, wie ich jetzt glaube zu verstehen, nur mit automatisch erstellten Accounts zu Problemen führen kann. Der einzige Account, der für mich automatisch erstellt wurde, ist hier auf Meta - ich habe ihn aber noch nicht benutzt. Trotzdem steht bei meiner Anfrage nur on hold. Mir liegt eigentlich nicht so viel am Account hier; falls das etwas nützt, könnte ich meine E-Mail-Adresse in den Einstellungen angeben (für ein neues Passwort). Die anderen Accounts (de, en, commons) habe ich von Hand vor SUL erstellt. Was mache ich nun am besten?

Ich habe mich mit der Frage an dich gewendet, weil du bei einigen Anfragen nicht bloß den Bug verlinkt, sondern einen Text geschrieben hast, den auch ich endlich verstanden habe. Bitte verzeih mir, wenn du so schon genug zu tun hast; Ich habe nur das Gefühl, auf der Seite nicht richtig verstanden worden zu sein bzw. selbst auch nicht voll durchblicken zu können.

Hallo MdE, wenn Dir der Account hier egal ist (da er keine Bearbeitungen hat), kann ich Dir natuerlich gerne den globalen löschen, das steht Dir frei, das schlimmste was Dir passieren kann, ist dass Du nachher den MdE@meta umbenennen lassen musst, weil Du nicht mehr reinkommst und ihn daher nicht mehr zum globalen Konto hinzufuegen kannst (es scheint nicht bei allen die Passwortwiederherstellung zu funktionieren, ich konnte das Problem zwar nicht reproduzieren, es gibt jedoch einen Bericht von einer Benutzerin).

SUL

kannst Du mir eventuell weiterhelfen? Auf Commons wollte ich mein Konto wegen dem SUL in César umbenennen. So lautet auch mein Name in der dt. WP, wo ich Admin bin. Du gabst mir den Hinweis, dass kein Global Account existiert, auf WikiCommons behaupten die Mitarbeiter aber das Gegenteil (guck hier). Kann es sein, dass es wegen dem Accent auf dem e nicht funktioniert? In der englischen WP kann ich mich auch nicht mit Accent anmelden. Login problem after SUL

Dear Spacebirdy,

I am Avia from Vi-Wikipedia.

• I started unify my accounts yesterday.
• Some accounts were attached successfully cause of same email address.
• Then I enter passwords of the rest of my accounts (there I had registered with other email address), all successfully.
• But there are some accounts Avia not created by myself, so I got message that the process cannot be completed.
• After that I could not login to Wikis (including Meta) that were attached, neither by old pass nor by pass of my home vi-wiki. I get error messge that my pass is wrong, always!
• I do not try to login to Wikis that I have not registered yet.
• Cookies on my PC turned on. I login to my home wiki by such.
• Now I do not know, which password I can use to login to other Wikis, old pass or my home wiki pass.

Good practice

Hello, Birdy. I just wanted to share with you a good practice which was implemented by our BG WP sysops. I advised them to include the link to the SUL username collisions detector and appropriate explanations in the system messages MediaWiki:Signupend and MediaWiki:Centralauth-complete-text, in order to have some innocent souls saved in advance.

• MediaWiki:Signupend is a system message which appears when a new account is created, look for instance en:MediaWiki:Signupend and en:Special:UserLogin/signup. The text included in BG WP forwarns new account creators to first check their desired username for crosswiki conflicts and choose names which do not conflict, in order to have global account from the very beginning and not trouble themselves and other account holders.
• MediaWiki:Centralauth-complete-text is a system message that welcomes users who are about to initiate account unification. The text included in BG WP forwarns these to check for conflicts and, if any, try to solve them before they have merged their accounts (bug 13507).

I even suggested to have this useful link added in the generic system message of CentralAuth, alas my idea was not welcomed and adopted for a reason which continues to be very obscure to me, and remained unexplained.

Home-wiki bugs

Hm, Birdy, it seems that home wiki appointment fails not only after deletion of global SULs... maybe you already know about this problem, but I couldn't find any info, so I report it.

Here is the case. bg:User:Zara needed about 30 usurpations, all of them with minimal number of edits if any. About 20 of the requests were fulfilled, 2 rejected, 8 are pending. After the problem with Nadina's misattributed home wiki, Zara decided to give it a try and see which wiki will be appointed by the merge system for her home wiki. SUL tool says home wiki should be BG WP, and that's right, most of the contribs are there. So far, so good. Note that Zara has never performed SUL, so never asked for its deletion... however the merge system appointed for home wiki IT WP, which was usurped for her only today. Here is the screenshot.

There you will first see a confirmation request for SR WP. It's irrelevant, this is a new different user, registered after Zara started here usurpations saga, and Serbian crats are already asked to usurp it, too. But again, attached are only very few of the accounts and home wiki is not the real one. So, problems may occur even with users who haven't had their SULs done and deleted... Did you know about this, can anything be done?

Hello again, I was not able to reproduce the bug, maybe I am missing an important step,

I made three accounts "Foo777", edited with two, so they got some contributions and a homewiki.

The third was the one to usurp, I made an alternative account, then moved the 0 contrib thing away, and had no problems in the Merge process, the home wiki was the correct one. Maybe it does not affect newer accounts or something is missing in that procedure.

But I still think it should be reported, but I have to try to get some sleep for now ~

Hi. Good news here! Zara just pushed her luck and checked once again what's going on with her SUL, and right now the homewiki is already properly attributed, and all accounts are listed. Same I see with Test_User_1. Seems the developers managed to diagnose the problem and fix it. Result of Recent Changes on gu@wiki

Hi Birdy, I am back to give you a trouible once again. For quite a long time I was wondering whether it's only gu.wiki were we see all the edits made by Bots in Special:RecentChanges even though by default it is set to 'Hide Bots'. In Gujarati, selecting 'Hide' Bots or 'Show' Bots makes no difference, as changes made by Bots are always displayed, I checked on en.wiki and hi.wiki, where the case is not so. These days, there are nearly 50-100 of Bot Edits everyday on gu, which makes me unable to view changes made by Users or non-users, which sometimes leaves vandalised pages intact.

Hi Birdy, I got it now, as you said because of not having the Botflag, they are listed in the history. Unfortunately as you know User:Spundun is almost inactive these days, it is most unlikely to assign these bots a bot flag. Anyways, nothing can be done as our project is Orfan without a permanent Admin/Beaurocrat.

Furthurmore, I could somehow have 4 votes for my ADmin Rights, I remember you or someone had told me last time when I was getting temp Admin rights that as the community is small, 5 votes will do for permanenet rights, which seems impossible to me now, as the users who contribute dont care to read anything else than their contribution. My rights are expiring tomorrow, so was wondering whether these 4 votes will do for it?

Hello Muddyb Blast Producer, normally image uploads should go to commons: which accepts all free licences, for Wiktionaries that would be the place to upload files (also audio files for words), so they can be used in all Wiktionaries or sister projects.

For the logo You need to go to wikt:sw:Special:Upload, it should be named 'Wiki.png', if it does not work it might be dissabled, then You can upload it to commons:, there it should be named 'Wiktionary-logo-sw.png' and leave me a note that You wish to use it as logo, I can protect it for You then.

Example: en:Template:PD-old

That was what I meant with names. If You want all of them from en.wiki You can just copy them over to sw.wiki and translate them later.

How to change user page title?

Hi, Birdy. Maybe you know how to change user page title? Some female users of Lithuanian wikipedia are unhappy because of masculine ending of namespace user (lithuanian - Naudotojas). Sure, we can't make double namespace for male and female, but maybe it's possible to change page title, like here: http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Alexsh. I asked this user, but he replied that this change is possible only in Chinese wikipedia. So what I need to to what we could change titles in Lithuanian wiki? All I could think of is {{DISPLAYTITLE:xyz}}, but afaik it is only enabled in the Wikipedias to resolve upper and lower case issues of the exact same character order: like Blubb -> blubb.

I think You have to talk to the developers, I guess You have to talk to the developers for two reasons:

• The "female" user-namespace-name F should redirect to the user-namespace-name M, because if someone tries to link to [[F:Someuser]] name they would get an error. (Namespaces can be made as some kind of redirection, compare wikt:de:WT:TS with wikt:de:Wiktionary:TS)
• The variable or magic word to change the namespace-prefix should be restricted to userpages/user-talkpages and should only change M: to F: but nothing else to prevent missuse.

To request such, which I think should be possible (but I am no developer at all), please first find community consensus and then open a request at bugzilla:, or visit #wikimedia-tech^connect to talk to a developer in real time.

Hi Jose77, hm, the page is only semiprotected, so You and other users (registered ones) should be able to edit it. To me it seems to be quite important to keep it semiprotected because of the history of Attacks.

Also, to be honnest, I do not quite understand how the complete unprotection of the main-page would increase the number of contributors.

I would suggest to link to a development mainpage from the talkpage which is unprotected, maybe in userspace, where also IPs can add their changes, which are then added to the real mainpage by a registered user. At the moment I would not prefer to unprotect it, as we are seeing an increase of spambot activity again.

Dictionary links

Hi Spacebirdy ... I came across this IP, 81.198.230.129, who seems to add dictionary links on different wikis. I haven't tested the dictionary in too many languages yet, but in those who I've tested it in I've reached the conclution that this dictionary is quite crappy (at least in any other language than English) and I reckon every language more or less has a better dictionary on web (i.e. this link doesn't contribute positively to wiki). Anyways, he seems only to put the link on the respective wiki's article about "dictionary" or "English". I've let the ones on "dictionary" stand, while I've removed all links on "English" as cross-wiki spam. What do you think? --EivindJ 11:07, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Pues renombrar las cuentas en ru.wiki y ja.wiki no debería ser un problema. Pero veo que en de.wiki el usuario Taichi tiene ediciones además no entiendo muy bien esta respuesta a una vieja petición tuya.

Si quieres tus cuentas alternativas siendo renombradas a "Taichi" tenemos que borrar tu cuenta global. Por favor podrías dejar un mensaje allí si te parece necesario (o sea si tienen contribuciones, que no quieres perder). Por favor asegúrate de tener una dirección de correo electrónico válida en tus preferencias.

Luego tienes que pedir a burócratas locales que las renombren: de, ru, ja.

Really, it works, just the cache has to be cleared, also note, that this will only work with the MonoBook-skin, which is the default one.

Hi,

I had been adding audio files for word pronunciations to the Irish Wiktionary and you suggested adding them to the Commons. I had a look at this but unfortunately I have very little time and the Commons upload procedure is much more time consuming. If I follow the, 'It is entirely my own work', link it is a bit quicker but the number of fields to fill in still seems excessive. I am wondering if it is possible to create a special, less general, form for uploading pronunciations. In paritcular it would be good if I just had to enter the word being pronounced <word> and the language code (ga) and then the description field would automatically be generated:

Fogharaíocht an fhocail gaeilge <word> Pronunciation of Irish word <word> Pronucitation du mot Irlandais <word> etc.

Also the date could be automatically entered as the date of upload. So essentially what I am proposing is adding a new link on the http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Upload page which would be similar to the 'It is entirely my own work' link but that would involve filling out less fields and would have a standardized description field. Is this possible ? How would I go about creating a new form like this ?

• go to commons:special:preferences -> Gadgets -> check the first checkbox: "Use the old-style upload form layout."
• clear cache.
• make a upload copy and paste plate for Your personal uploads on Your userpage, with the necessary information: for example, something like:

Locator Image in Infobox @ gu.wiki

Hi Birdy, I am back. This time I noticed that on Gujarati Wiki, the locator maps (in Infobox) always appear for the whole of India, while on English, they appear for particular state when the infobox is placed. For example, if you compate Palitana and પાલીતાણા you would know what I mean. Can you please advise what will we need to do? do we need to modify the code, template or need the Image of Gujarat on gu.wiki uploaded somewhere? I don't have to 'allow' him anything, if someone disagrees with my decisions and decides otherwise I don't mind.

As for 'my consent' there can't be one: to grant someone temporary status on a project with 2-3 active admins without the locals consent, is something that obviously should not be done. If someone does it is then their responsability, that was all I was saying.

I am surprised You'r now trying to get temp - status the second time, again telling there are no local admins. Did You ever contact them and informed them about the situation? I think not...

Try to find the locals consent to this or tell them to delete themselves and stop trying to play out stewards until You find one that does believe You there are no locals without looking.

Myanmar Wikipedia

Hello, Spacebirdy. The Myanmar Wikipedia is a disaster. Unicode encoding for the script changed (I am one of the people who am responsible for solving the problems which brought about the change in encoding. RIght now you can see that there is a kind of sysop war brewing, with several people who have no experience with the Wikipedia at all asking for adminship because of some turf wars in Burma about font technology. This is most regrettable. But it doesn't get the wiki up and running. It doesn't get the user interface translated. It doesn't get Unicode 4.1-encoded stubs deleted. Etc. Unless the problems with that wiki are solved, it may as well be deleted entirely. I requested permanent adminship on that wiki because it may take an undetermined amount of time to sort out the problems there. I've been in contact with Jimmy Wales about this, in fact. What can we do to get this sorted? Check the requests for Adminship page. You will find the number of people voting to Oppose my adminship have all done so as one-time first-time votes. How to move Categories

Hello, I'm a new admin at Punjabi Wikipedia. I have a question, how do we move a category. Some of the categories at [pa.wikipedia.org Punjabi Wikipedia] needs renaming, so do I just delete the old category and create a new one for the newer name, or is there another way. • "ਇਸ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਦਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।।" is the translation for "Moving Category". How you have it set up is alright, although on pages some of the categories are witten as for example on page pa:ਅਸੋਕ a category is linked as "Category:ਇਤਿਹਾਸ" and on another article pa:ਕਿਲਾ ਮੁਲਤਾਨ page its written as "ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ:ਇਤਿਹਾਸ" both go to categoty named "ਇਤਿਹਾਸ"

Error while using value {{#expr:}} in template

Hi Birdy, Hope you are well and back working. I am awaiting your inputs for the question posted above for the locator images, while you get time for that, may I ask you one more favour? I copied the Template for Nutritional Value from en.wiki to gu.wiki. The problem I am facing there is, wherever the value {{#expr:}} appears in template, in the actual page it is replaced by an error message reading "Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character "�"%". Hello Dhaval, it seems it can't handle the gu-numerals for mathematical operations. It is working now, I am not sure if it's what You expected though :(

As for the other problem, I did not forget it, I just always save some work to do for the night but lately I am always so tired that I can't get everything done :(

Excellent Birdy, I am so dumb, didn't realise that when there is some calculation involved, it can't recognise the gu numerals. Can we do something for this? I mean any code change or something as gu-numerals are on the same key strokes as english, can't we synchronise them?

He estado tratando de usar el pagefromfile en mi bot para wikisource en español, pero no logro hacerlo funcionar. Si pudieras darme una ayudita te lo agradecería.

He creado el archivo dict.txt (guardado como utf8 como dice allí) y lo tengo en la carpeta de pywikipedia. Al correr el bot pongo los parámetros pero me da siempre el mismo error, que dice:

Problem whuile Blocking

For last quite sometime, I am facing this probelm while Blocking someone. Everytime, I try to block the user, the message appears saying "Exipry time invalid". I tried all the different options of expiry time, but it won't allow me to block any user. I think not being able to see the GUjarati script in drop down list is due to my computer set up, but still not sure, as I can see all the other text in gujarati script but the drop down list and a few others. Yes, I have tried firefox and opera, the problem doesn't persist in them, but unfortunately in office PC I can't have anythign else than IE6, I think at home I have even got IE6.5 or IE7, and I can read the text in that as well. And, the problem is only with the texts in Drop down lists, or titlebars, etc., main text I can read and write properly in gujarati. So seems to be some problem with IE6, or may be because I am using Windows2000 in office, while at home I have got XP. But so far as I can see the main text in GUjarati and edit it, I really don't bother much.--Dhaval^Talk 12:34, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Is administrative access required to replace one's own uploaded images? I do plan to move the images to commons but only after I get them the way I want them. Plus, I find commons rather intimidating and a little, well..., er, so I prefer to start in a friendlier place. :-)

When I'm ready, do you guys want me to set up a bot flagged account on commons to use imagetransfer.py?

Renaming on En

I'm not sure about the renames on en. Assuming person A has SUL activated, has account B on en with significant edits, and accidentally logs into en: with his SUL account, what's going to happen? Would renaming B to A (=C) (through usurp), unlink C with SUL? Nichalp 10:29, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

If A has SUL and accidentally logged into a project where he wants B renamed to A, thus creating an account automatically, the no edit account A just can be moved to something else E and then B to A.

Yes, an account renamed to (or from) a sul account is unlinked, the user can then merge it in en:special:mergeaccount,
