- Personal info: (English)I have been an administrator at en.wiki for over 10 years now. I've also been trusted as an OTRS member for several years as well, assisting in some of our more controversial cases to try to work towards a solution. I do not intend to use my entrusted user right to my advantage at any point, as I have never done so on en.wik (regardless of the half-dozen editors I've had to sanction or warn who would attempt to argue otherwise). Outside of Wikimedia, I am currently retired from the en:USAF, where I was entrusted with the highest-level clearance there is (a fact the foundation is aware of) to analyze intelligence, for cyber and nuclear missions. I also was trusted as the battle staff Assistant Director during every nuclear exercise and inspection we had (a position typically filled by a LtCol) during 2009-2010. For my actions I received the the Air Force Achievement Medal, Nuclear Deterrence Operations Medal, Outstanding Unit Award (x2), Good Conduct Medal, Honor Graduate Ribbon, among other awards such as Airman of the Year, Airman of the Quarter, Airman of the Month (x2), Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter, and the Chief's Choice award.
Outside of the military I was elected President of a 501(c)3 (a non-governmental organization) with over 2,200 members included. We raised over $40,000 for the local Salvation Army and assisted in schools across the local area to help underprivileged children. The Base commander stated at the end of my annual tenure that I "saved the organization from being shut down". (Words that I didn't even expect to hear... not to brag on myself too much, but I'm supposed to be selling myself here.)
Beyond that, in my civilian life while I was still active duty, I volunteered and became appointed by a Judge to be an "Officer of the Court" in my role as a en:Court Appointed Special Advocate, which I worked at for 3 years, receiving the CASA of the month award at one point. I spent hundreds of hours doing that, and it paid off to see children end up in safe homes, or back with their families when it was healthy to do so.
I could continue to list my qualifications, but I think you all can get the point: many organizations (including the WMF) have entrusted my ability to keep confidential information confidential, and that I won't/haven't abused the authorities given to me. I fully hope this community also extends me this same trust. As I'm running for this position purely because I see a real need for stewards... Too often on IRC or other means of communication, there simply isn't one around to handle sensitive matters. I will take my role very seriously. And I will ensure to act very slowly until I have a handle on the new position fully.
Edit: I'm glad for those willing to support my candidacy at all, although I can see this is definitely not going to pass. Some of you were deliberately harsh in your comments here, sadly I find that uncalled for considering I doubt none of us here have not made mistakes in our past, we are all humans regardless of our roles in life. However, I still - as always - take every concern mentioned seriously and attempt to calibrate myself based upon them. This is not a statement of withdrawal however, as I see no reason to when there can always be something new to learn from someone's comment. Everyone knows something you don't after all. Thank you all and good luck to the rest of the candidates! — Coffee // have a cup // 01:25, 21 February 2018 (UTC) - Questions: See Stewards/Elections 2018/Questions#Coffee

Jbhunley(Not eligible, checked by Ankry) • For volunteer positions, even those of great responsibility or authority, I look for two simple criteria. Has the candidate done anything that would make me think they would abuse the position or indicate they have a motive for seeking the position which could be seen as 'improper'. The second is, do they have sufficient abilities/experience to learn the position and not do harm as they are learning it. Of all the candidates Coffee is the only one who I have observed enough to make an assessment. I have not seen any red flags that make me think he would abuse the position or fail to take it seriously. Nor have I seen any indication he would fail to diligently apply himself to learning his duties or carelessly cause harm while he does so.There is a part of me that has a concern that a person who has/had the level of access Coffee alludes to in his statement would mention it in a public forum - bad OPSEC. That, however, relates to a different threat environment than we have on Wikipedia so, on balance, I do not think it preculdes him from the position of Steward. - Rschen7754 (Eligible, checked by AlvaroMolina) • Almost no qualifications beyond en.wiki adminship. While I don't think Coffee would leak private data, I do not think that he is temperamentally suited for the role (see the diffs mentioned here), which often involves making difficult decisions in public, and working collaboratively with other stewards and members of the community. I have seen the effects of when even just one fellow steward refuses to work as a team (as alluded to in my essay) and I do not want to take a chance here. The candidate also seems to overstate the "power" that the steward role has, which is not to "enforce regulations cross-wikis". Rschen7754 14:01, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- MF-Warburg (Eligible, checked by AlvaroMolina) • From the statement alone, which lists numerous off-wiki achievements (which may be good but just amount to saying: "because of bla and bla in the US air force, I won't reveal your private data! How great of me!") but barely mentions any on-wiki activity, I don't see why to support this candidate. In addition, with nearly 97% of edits on enwiki, he certainly does not have any cross-wiki activity. Taking also the controversial enwiki actions into account which were mentioned in some of the questions, I don't think it would be a good idea to support. Also unfortunately no reply to several questions so far. --MF-W 14:02, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

I would prefer that they restrict themselves to English Wikipedia, and perhaps another project or two first, before moving into a Steward role. I disagree with the assertion that he has made several mistakes on English Wikipedia recently, he has shown a good deal of competency in managing Arbitration Enforcement, an area few others wish to tread now, such is its toxicity. - Donald Trung (Eligible, checked by TonyBallioni) • out of principle I can’t support the expansion of the Stewardry until (1) there exists a council for global ban/lock (non-WMF bans) appeals made up of users who are not sitting-stewards, or a global UTRS system to address global locks and bans as the current stewards clearly don't want discussions from globally banned/blocked users to stand, (2) stewards actually start following policy like “If they create new accounts and are not disruptive with those accounts, they will not be locked again merely because it is discovered that they were previously globally locked.”, and (3) when there’s a clear policy when global locks can be used for non-vandalism only accounts (e.g. Registered for shorter a month, having less than 500 edits, Etc.) as plenty of potentially constructive users with one bad day are locked out of their accounts and many will never return while actual trolls don't really care about such measures (the Nipponese dog, the Incorrible Troll, Etc.) - Calton (Eligible, checked by Xaosflux) • For a variety of reasons, including some bad admin judgments on en.wiki, a tendency to assert authority, and reacting badly to feedback. Considering that he's just ducked out of en.wiki in the middle of consideration of his latest controversy, he doesn't seem to have demonstrated the judgement or temperament to be a Steward, whatever irrelevancies he cites from his CV. --Calton (talk) 04:36, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
