Boxing Day

Boxing Day has been a bank holiday since 1871. It falls on the day after Christmas originated as a holiday on which the rich used to box up gifts to give to those less fortunate. It was traditionally a day when workers such as postmen, errand boys and servants would receive a special Christmas box from their employers. They would also get the day off to spend time with their families.
