‘General Hospital’, ‘Days of our Lives’ and ‘The Young and the Restless’ Receive WGA Award Nominations for Daytime Drama
After being postponed a few times due to the devastation of the LA wildfires, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced on Wednesday, nominations for achievement in screenwriting, television, streaming, news, radio/audio, and promotional writing for its 2025 WGA Awards with ceremonies to be held concurrently on Saturday, February 15th at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and the Edison Ballroom in New York City.
The WGA Awards honor the best from the 2024 calendar year, and this year, three daytime dramas are competing for the writing prize. They are: Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. It should be noted that The Bold and the Beautiful did not submit for award contention.
Days of our Lives has won the WGA Daytime Drama writing award for the last four years running (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) under former head writer, Ron Carlivati, who is nominated again this year. The episodes submitted were surrounding the passing of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes) and the 15,000th episode milestone.
A Days of our Lives rep provided Michael Fairman TV with the specific show numbers for the series writing submission. They are: #14999 (11/29/2024) – Salem learns of Doug’s passing, #15000 (12/2/2024) – Horton family reunions, Liz Chandler and Marie Horton come home and the family reminiscences about Doug, and episode #15001 (12/3/2024) – Salem gathers to say goodbye to Doug.
If Carlivati, and the nominated writing team from DAYS, were to take home the top daytime drama prize, it would make it Carlivati’s seventh win overall; having previously also won during his tenure as head writer of General Hospital in 2015 and 2016.
Below, check out the official nominated writing teams from those vying for the WGA Award. Michael Fairman TV will update this post with the writing episodes/submissions for GH and Y&R, as soon as they become available.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES Preview: Who Does Jada Actually Marry … Faux Rafe or the Real Rafe?
It’s Jada (Elia Cantu) and Rafe’s (Galen Gering) wedding week on Days of our Lives, leading off with their bachelorette and bachelor parties.
There’s just one major problem, the real Rafe is being held against his will by EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel at the DiMera Mansion underground, as Rafe’s imposter, Arnold Feniger (Galen Gering) has once again taken over his life!
The story will take on many twists and turns over the week of January 27-31st, and in the latest promo for the Peacock streaming soap opera, Stephanie (Abigail Klein), Jada’s maid of honor, is throwing her a wild bachelorette party, while faux Rafe shows up for “his” bachelor party.
The dueling bachelor parties happen on the Tuesday, January 28th episode. Later in the week on the Thursday, January 30th episode. Arnold, pretending to be Rafe, forces Javi (Al Calderon) to keep a secret, while EJ toys with the real Rafe. Meanwhile, Jada makes a confession to Stephanie.
By cliffhanger Friday, Javi agonizes to Leo (Greg Rikaart) over revealing the truth, as faux Rafe’s wedding to Jada begins. Just as the ceremony is about to commence, spoilers indicate the real Rafe makes his escape from the DiMera compound. Will he be able to stop the wedding of Arnold and Jada? If so, will Rafe wind up truly marrying the love of his life, or will he be too late?
DAYS fans were shocked when back on the December 24, 2024 episode, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) received a knock on the door and opened it to see what appeared to be Rafe. However, EJ soon found out it was none other than criminal Arnold Feniger, the man that EJ and Stefano hired back in 2011 to impersonate Rafe (after undergoing extensive plastic surgery that is).
Watch the promo for wedding week on DAYS below.
Now weigh-in: who will Jada end up tying the knot with? Arnold (faux Rafe), the real Rafe, or no one? Share your theories via the comment section below.

Francisco San Martin, DAYS and B&B Alum, Dead at 39
Francisco San Martin, who played the original Dario Hernandez on Days of our Lives and later appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful in the short-term run as Mateo, was found dead in his Los Angeles home. He was 39.
In the report from the Los Angeles Country Coroners office, San Martin committed suicide by ligature hanging back on January 16th. In addition to his role on daytime, he also appeared on the CW’s Jane the Virgin where he played the role of Fabian Regalo del Cielo in seasons 3 and 4.
Taking to her Instagram Story upon learning the news of San Martin’s passing, Camila Banus (ex-Gabi Hernandez, Days of our Lives) paid tribute to her former on-screen sibling by noting, “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace my friend.” She then added, “Love you mucho, mucho, mucho. I wish I’d told you more.”
The actor had appeared on Days of our Lives in 2011 when he arrived as the troubled bad boy thief. Francisco’s run was cut short as he appeared on the iconic soap in episodes from March 2, 2011 – September 19, 2011.
San Martin took to Twitter (now X) and shared with his fans that he was let go, expressing, “I wanted you guys to hear it from me first: ‘DOOL’ has decided to bring back some of the old characters and I’ll be one of the casualties.” The role of Dario was eventually recast and played by soap vet, Jordi Vilasuso back in 2016.
Later in 2017 and now on The Bold and the Beautiful, San Martin played a sexy Forrester mansion employee who wound up caught in Sheila’s (Kimberlin Brown) web of deceit. Sheila wanted Mateo to seduce Quinn Fuller then played by Rena Sofer, only it backfired.
