Synopsis
The 'secretary' of a busy newspaperman is revealed to be a cherubic small child, Baby Peggy. When a rich woman's pearl necklace is stolen, Baby Peggy's employer promises to make the reporter who cracks the case Editor-in-Chief. The little girl seizes the opportunity, and - several disguises and chases later, with the grudging aid of the office-boy - duly returns with the jewels to achieve promotion, with all the adults scurrying to serve her.

At first this seemed like it would only be entertaining if you really love the idea of small children dressed up as adults and doing adult things, but my heart is not too hard to be won over by the sight of a small child being flung out a second-story window.

This played before Girl Shy at the Music Box. Really incredible premise here: a 4 year old child is a genuine reporter for a newspaper. It feels like something out of the 90s, except it's the 20s and the film seems to delight in being hilariously cruel to the titular character. We see her get thrown out of windows, dragged by cars, and tossed every where. A lot of the laughs at the theater came from the sheer shock of seeing how cruel the film was to the kid.
But it's all in good, silly fun. A cute movie that inspired me to look into Baby Peggy after - a child actor whose parents squandered all the money she made in these films. She ended up becoming an advocate for child actors ever - and I can see why.
Fascinating artifact and still very funny.

With Jay Warren on organ. Part of a double feature with "Girl Shy."
