GlaxoSmithKline to Bring More R&D to Montgomery County
GlaxoSmithKline is consolidating its research and development with new smart labs in Upper Providence Township, according to a staff report from Fortune.
The British pharma giant is planning to shift 40 percent of its global pharmaceutical research and development workers to Montgomery County by 2018. To achieve this, the company is investing $250 million in the creation of new and smarter types of laboratory work space.
The “smart labs” will be designed to encourage collaboration among GSK scientists and improve safety measures through technology. This includes features such as changing rooms that can automatically notify researchers if they need to adjust their protective gear.
