Small, tender bump on palm

Ok, for about a month now, I have had a small bump (bee bee sized) on my left palm between where my pointer and ring fingers extend. It is tender to the touch and when gripping on large slopers, but no pain or soreness otherwise. I first noticed it after getting hang rings to train (which I stopped using immediately) but still have continued climbing at the gym 1x-2x per week and the bump has not increased in size of sensitivity.
Anyone have something similar to his happen or know what may be the issue?

Duprin's syndrome. How old are you? where globally is your family from?

i have two large bumps. doesn't stop me from climbing extra friction on slopers ;)

Probably an ingrown hair. Stop, or you'll go blind, too.

Jokes about self-abuse aside, I developed in as well years ago. Never caused any issues, but as with anything medical related, get it checked out if in any doubt whatsoever.

Congratulations, you just may be a Viking:

Dupuytren’s disease (DD) is an ancient affliction of unknown origin. It is defined by Dorland as shortening, thickening, and fibrosis of the palmar fascia producing a flexion deformity of a finger. Tradition has it that the disease originated with the Vikings, Text

Hasn't bothered me in the 7 years I've had it.

Ah, a cancer/Webmd joke. Hilarious.

In all seriousness, more reason to get it checked out - as unlikely as it is that it's more than Viking heritage or a ganglion cyst.

Wish I had done the same for some other seemingly benign symptoms a few years back. You can do the math on that one.

Wow... great info and ideas (and humor!!). I will check it out. all irish heritage but i am 45 so there could be some viking dna floating me blood but will look into the potential ganglion cyst and other growths as well. thanks all!

I'd vote for ganglion cyst...

I developed a similar lump in palm about an inch down from ring finger, bit between pinky and ring, about 6-12 months ago.

Pretty sure mines just a harmless lumping of the tendon anchored to pinky. It's been no more than a curiosity for me.

Looks like Duputrens, but as someone pointed out, this is almost inevitably on the little or ring fingers (and associated hand tendons), not the index/middle fingers - so is more likely to be a ganglion. Your doctor will tell you more reliably than the interwebs...

PS: if it is a ganglion, give it a good whack with your family bible. I'm not sure that works, but it is too good an old wives tale not to try.

Did you ever find out what it was? I have the exact same issue. Was it just a tendon issue? I have it in the exact same spot and same symptoms. I throw axes a lot and am thinking that has something to do with it.

It’s where Iower edge of my phone sits, I’ve realised. I have a second forming now on next bone connection, after first one in just weeks... Dr said other side of hand knuckle was synovitis, now this EDS like connective tissue leak? What kind of phone are you guys that also have it using?

Since the bump is tender, please be careful not to use any misogynistic, xenophobic, transphobic, racist, or any other potentially hurtful words around it.

Hi Fellow Climbers!

Here is a YouTube video that was super helpful to me in addressing a similar nodule I had in the palm of my hand. The techniques described had an almost immediate impact for me and I hope they do for you as well if you run into this issue.

Have a good day everyone!

Far out! I have this on my hand...where my pinky meets my palm. I read that whack it with the bible bit. Just whacked it with the back of my phone...it’s mother f-ing gone!! What?! Seriously though. Where did it go? Did it pop? Give it a go. I’ve had it for a couple weeks now. Was hurting when I was gripping things.

I have something similar and was told by my physio that it is a flexor tendon adhesion.

that youtube video looks helpful.
Another thing you can do before climbing is tape the area over with many layers of tape to pad it, so no holds will dig into it and aggravate it more.
You have to then tape around your hand & between a couple finger to hold the padding tape in place or you will soon sweat it all off.

Okay so wait... I have same thing in same spot but I'm scared to just smack it with my phone
