Oak Grove Middle School ready to open

DAVIDSON CO., N.C. — Oak Grove Middle School in Davidson County is ready for it’s first day of classes ever on Monday.

“It’s a historic time for Davidson County because we’ve never had a middle school this big and haven’t had a new middle school since 1978,” said Donna Tucker, who teaches Language Arts.

Officials said Oak Grove was built because of overcrowding at North Davidson and Ledford Middle Schools. The school will educate 734 students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

“I love the newness,” said Mrs. Deang, who teaches Math and Science. ” Students have never even sat in these chairs. It’s just so exciting.”

This weekend teachers and construction crews have been putting on the final touches to make sure the middle school is ready for Monday. The school has been under construction for more than a year.

Mrs. Tucker has taught for years but said this first day is a little different.

“Middle school is  a change, but then going to a middle school when you’re expecting to go someplace else is another change,” she said.

The school doors open at 7 a.m. and the bell rings for classes to begin at 8.
