Lawrence Peter Berra was born on May 12,1925 in St. Louis, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1943. Lawrence played his first baseball game with the New York Yankees. He got the nickname “Yogi” from a childhood friend named Bobby Hofman. He helped the New York Yankees win fourteen world series.
In his baseball career, "Yogi" hit 321 doubles, 49 triples, and 300 home runs. ”Yogi” played 17 years with the New York Yankees. He was voted M.V.P. for three years. Some obstacles he had to overcome were put-downs from the media and being teased by other people. “Yogi” is known for his caricature and jokes. “Yogi” is also known for being very kind and having good sportsmanship. A quote that “Yogi” had was “you can observe a lot just by watching." He is a very brave and courageous man. “Yogi” is always ready to play baseball and he is enthusiastic about playing. “Yogi” is one of the most talented and modest baseball players in our history.

“Yogi” was a very loving and caring baseball player. There is no one more witty or courageous than “Yogi” Berra. He was a great catcher for the New York Yankees and no catcher could ever match “Yogi” Berra. Did you ever think “Yogi” would be a great catcher and a great hitter? Yogi is again one of the greatest players OF OUR time.
