Reno man arrested in connection with deadly September motorcycle crash in downtown Sparks

The Sparks Police Department arrested a man in connection with a deadly motorcycle crash in September.

Officers arrested 37-year-old Reno resident Kurtis Zomparelli and charged him with one count of reckless driving causing death.

Crews responded to the report of a single motorcycle crash in the 900 Blk of Victorian Ave around 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 26.

Authorities say that through the officers' investigation and interviews with witnesses, officers learned a motorcycle rider, identified as 35-year-old Robert Ortiz, was traveling westbound on Victorian from Pyramid at a high speed. Ortiz then struck a curb, causing the motorcycle to become airborne. Ortiz was thrown from the motorcycle before landing on concrete.

Crews attempted lifesaving measures butOrtiz was pronounced dead at the scene.
