First, these aren't "developers" second, why would a now first party studio need a "strategic partnership team"? Theyve just been moved into the parent company as that Bungie department is now irrelevant.

Eonjay1d 13h ago

Bingo

And furthermore as long as these people aren't being laid off I really don't see an issue.

I am interested to see their new projects.

1d 12h ago
Eonjay1d 12h ago

We don't have to be dramtic about it. There is no meltdown. They did layoff about 10% of workers but so did Activision and many other studios. We wish everyone who has lost a job in the past a speedy recovery and we are thankful that this story is not about layoffs or devs leaving canceled projects. We will save or concern for when it really means something.

Eonjay1d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

They aren't being gutted at all. It sounds like you are having a panic attack. Please calm down. This is about a business strategy and development team within a Sony Company working on new business development projects within other units at Sony. And nothing more.

S2Killinit1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

@PSNogames
Doesn’t every studio shrink after they finish a project? They dont retain all the developers. In this case, they are moving to other projects within Sony. Which btw is what Sony bought Bungie for.

You are reaching. Sounding like you know about meltdowns.

Oh and hi Colbertinator. Your newest multiaccount?

Sony putting the dagger in deeper. What’s left of Bungie? Not much, sad to see the studio that have us so many great franchises becoming more and more of a shell of its former self……way to go Sony

S2Killinit1d 3h ago

What the fudge. Over react much? Im looking forward to see what Bungie has done with Marathon. Pretty sure they are done with it which is why devs are moved to work on other projects. Expect an announcement soon for Marathon.

DodoDojo1d ago

Bungie is supposedly operatering independently, so im not sure how you chop it up to them just moving on to other projects, theyre leaving for another company.

S2Killinit14h ago

Well normally the developers are simply let go at the end of a cycle. In this case they are reallocated into other developers within the parent company.

-Foxtrot1d ago

Sony? The company did this to themselves

They lied about projections and about improving internal issues to get bought and they never hit any promised targets

Sony also gave them an extra 1.2 Billion to keep people at their job and so they wouldn't leave yet they STILL f***** up.

What more could they have done? Now they are are moving them to their other studios.

I’d argue that you have no reading skills but it’s the 120th alt account who’s came back to spread Sony hate so…

STALKER 2 Dev Reveals No Current Plans For A PS5 Port

Game World Game Director revealed in an interview with Tech4Gamers that there are currently no plans for a PS5 Port, and they are fully focused on developing (and now supporting) the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions.

Of course they said this. If they have a contract with Microsoft and I believe it's for 3 months???? They can't just go oh yer we have a ps5 version releasing in a few months.

I think the bloober team said the same thing with the medium. No plans for a playstation version then once the exclusive time was up and done oh yer we are releasing a ps5 version.

Lightning771d 22h ago

Suppose to be 3 months 3 years ago. I personally think they feel some sorta loyalty towards MS. Helping them and their team get through near impossible development. Who knows, I think it'll happen still it could be a year or 6 months tops.

ocelot071d 21h ago

Oh yer If that's the case I don't have a issue with that personally. I do believe it will release in 2025 on ps5. Maybe towards the end of the year once they have optimized the game a bit more.

Michiel19891d 7h ago

yeah these statements are just not helpful, if they got a ps version releasing soon, they won't say it anyway if they're under contract.

Reaper22_2d ago

No plans yet. The game is really good though. Love it on my series x.

dveio2d ago

It's always been the same.

"Can't comment!" to not cannibilize sales on the timed exclusive platform. And, of course, due to contractual bindings.

Happy for them their game has been a success, although I haven't ever really followed the Stalker franchise.

Only catched it sadly suffered a lot of bugs at launch. Which ain't no good for any timed exclusive.

pwnmaster30001d 21h ago (Edited 1d 21h ago )

Lmaoo trying to correct something but “caught” makes no sense also.

I’m pretty sure they are trying to say “the only catch”

Sonic18812d ago

It's a good game but I enjoyed Indiana Jones a lot more

RaidenBlack2d ago

One is more Adventure focused and restricted and other is geared towards exploration.
The latter will always be more prone to bugs and nuances

Sonic18811d 19h ago (Edited 1d 19h ago )

I agree but Indiana Jones is more than semi open world and has a lot of side missions that flows with the main story. It's just a better game overall imo. My issue with Stalker 2 is that they're better exploration games out there. It nothing unique or memorable about Stalker 2. I still can remember Indiana Jones whip that was very useful to explore and the game is better than some of the movies. Indiana jones might be better than Uncharted and Tomb Raider even though it's in first person view, but it turns into third-person in certain sections in the game like climbing up ladders. It's definitely debatable

Industry Analyst Argues Either Sony or Microsoft Will Need to Exit the Console Market

One of either Sony or Microsoft must exit the console space, argues analyst group DFC Intelligence. That’s because it believes there isn’t “room for more than two major console systems” and it doesn’t expect Nintendo to go anywhere.

“Sony or Microsoft will struggle mightily in a distant third place – largely depending on which of those companies can gain early momentum,” the report says of hypothetical new hardware, expected in 2028.

as things stand right now, theres one struggling in the console space.

but that 3rd place holder, has a 3 trillion dollar backer.

i dont think its as easy to say that one has to "go"

piroh3d ago

They simply can't donate their console forever, they, as any other corporation, want profitable product.

IMO maybe they will try one more time with some console/handheld hybrid since Ninty shows it's success, then it'll be Sega route for them.

jokeriswild43d ago

I think what's best for us is when both consoles are competitive, so Sony doesn't pull nonsense like releasing an overpriced PS5 Pro (970 CAD!) without a disc drive that ends up being bought up by scalpers, with little to know regard from Sony as they hope everyone goes digital to curb used game sales.
The more we have a monopoly, the more we get these anti-consumer practices like under manufacturing a disc drive on purpose in hopes people give up and go digital.

Cacabunga3d ago

It is fine they want to become a digital service provider but the way they are building up the brand is terrible. On the other hand there is nothing that excites us gamers..

Zeref3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

When they sell an Xbox. It's not just about the box. They gained a costumer that will spend hundreds of dollars in the ecosystem. It's the only console that has GamePass as well.

They're not just gonna give up money just because

SoloZelot902d ago

This is why they're pushing to be more of a platform instead of a console.

Their console business has failed so they're trying to succeed elsewhere.

badz1492d ago

when will people stop blaming Sony for the Pro's price? it has been proven over and over that a PC with similar spec costs way over $1000! do they want Sony to take the losses like they did with the PS3? fro $700, I think Sony has tried their best to cramp as much new tech as they could in the Pro. The main issue with gaming hardware at the moment is the price for GPUs (and CPUs too if you also wanna go there) which are totally ridiculous! the PS5 and Series X aren't getting their permanent price cut yet despite already being in their 4th year but we even saw prices went up instead in several markets! this just shows how bad the pricing for the hardware in the current market. and it's just going to get worse.

AMD have TSMC making all their chips but so do the others. TSMC can only output so much and they also have to continue moving forward in tech thus making older chip models with older architecture in consoles for longterm makes less and less sense. The dire situation we are in is no thanks to no competition in the fab space especially for CPUs and GPUs. Intel was supposed to bridge this gap but is failing even on their own chips and their recovery looks rocky at best as the gap between them and TSMC is just getting wider by the days. until there's another company that can take on TSMC head-on and reintroduce competition in that market, gamers can kiss goodbye to reasonable hardware prices for now.

Having a 3 trillion dollar backer doesn't mean they have an excuse to bleed money indefinitely.

Xbox has never turned a profit it came close in the 360 and would have if rrod didn't happen

They are a business and want to make money at the end of the day is clear they are trying everything to pivot and turn a profit but it's not happening so it's very likely they will become third party

gold_drake3d ago

true

but they have been so far. and if MS hasnt pulled the plug yet, whats to say they will ever do it.

Reaper22_3d ago

They haven't profited on consoles but with games and services they are making a lot of money. Especially for this year which has been very good for them. Hardware sales isn't where the biggest chunk of profits come from. Not even for Nintendo.

crazyCoconuts3d ago

There's gotta be a line somewhere where they say it's not worth it anymore to invest in the next generation. None of us know where that line is, but every year they get closer to it (diminishing sales) and they're acting like they already crossed it.

Zeref3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Idk how this myth still exists. They have been profiting from Xbox for ages. You think people just buy the console and never buy any games?

neutralgamer19922d ago

Profchaos

hardware rarely is making profit. These companies make a lot of profit selling sofrware and services. So yes xbox has been profitable for a while now. Hardware is just so consumer buys into the system but than software is where they make great profit

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

@neutralgamer1992

The only one making money on hardware is Nintendo, but they build with older, weaker hardware, it works for them, because their exclusives do most of the heavy lifting, plus they also go in a different direction to Playstation/Xbox.

Zeref3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Nobody will leave.

All of them are healthy businesses that make billions every year.

Profchaos2d ago

I tend to think they will pivot over and over again until they figure it out.

It's worth remembering that they entered the console market as a direct result on the ps2 and it's ability to run Linux Microsoft saw that as a threat to their home computing operations and the Xbox was a direct response the original Xbox was built by two competing teams in Microsoft the one that won was Seamus blacklys team with a more console like OS abd game first approach thankfully but there was a moment where they almost put out a windows box.

What I'm trying to say is that early 2000s mindset is disappearing Microsoft no longer see game consoles as a threat to home computers.

However now that steam OS is coming they are apparently concerned again that steam OS will eat into their dwindling home computer market so they will be doubling down on a strategy to make pc gamers happy.

All I know is there's strange times ahead

Green-Smurf2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Split the cost and build 1 gaming console. Independent streaming services and their owned IPs are where the they profit as well as not taking hits on 100% console manufacturing costs. MS has a better OS and Sony has better hardware. Combine the two

crazyCoconuts2d ago

I don't think Xbox has the better OS - it takes up more space and resources if memory serves. I don't know if they kept the Xbox One architecture with the XSX (I'm guessing they did), but that was known for not being efficient at all. PS is Linux based and runs pretty lean - not a hint of Windows

Lightning773d ago

Who are some of these analysts exactly? For starters, they both Co existed for a 2 decades. Second yes Hardware wise Sony has it locked down along with 3rd party support and of course their strong 1st part output with games that sell their console strongly, currently and going forward. MS has weak and quickly decreasing hardware sells but has reach with high MAU (this is an Xbox) engagement, and services like GP. Their strategies are different but no way they can't exist suddenly, makes no sense. Stadia didn't last long and got abandoned because gamers rejected a possible 4th platform. The big 3 have always co existed. Their strategies may change and pivots may happen because that's buissness you have to adapt. These analysts makes no sense.

gold_drake3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

to be fair, i absolutely agree with you, but this is about consoles specifically.

not gaming overall.

but i doubt any of those two or three will ever bk down.

Lightning773d ago

I'm talking about consoles as well. MS of all are questionable. Though they're using services and treating Xbox as a Windows brand by putting Xbox everywhere.

truthBombs3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I'm no analyst but from what I've seen thus far.

All parties continue to double down on gaming.

Including MS/Xbox.

Bathyj3d ago

Degenerate gamblers double down all the time.

OlderGamer173d ago

Yes on gaming, MS goes for the biggest part 3 party but Xbox...when "every screen is an Xbox", (stupiest PR fraise ever) why is Xbox hardware needed then??

crazyCoconuts3d ago

Doubling down on your console would be pushing exclusives, not giving them away.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH3d ago

Nintendo is the only one doubling down then. Sony only has times exclusives now.

crazyCoconuts3d ago

Sony may be releasing exclusives on PC, but certainly not on Xbox consoles

truthBombs3d ago

@OlderGamer17
@crazyCoconuts

If you cannot see beyond 'exclusive games' and console hardware lifetime sales..

then you'll never understand what MS/Xbox is doing.

Just sit back and watch.

Gamingsince19812d ago

"then you'll never understand what MS/Xbox is doing"

MS/Xbox don't even know what they are doing in the gaming business, how would you expect anyone else to know ?

2d ago
crazyCoconuts2d ago

Exclusives have always been the main driver towards console success. Why do you think that's changing?
Look at the streaming services - Hulu, Netflix Disney, Paramount, etc. Exclusive content is pretty much the only thing differentiating them.
And we're talking about console hardware - that's what this article i about. Xbox obviously won't need exclusives to be fully third party, if that's what they're doing

One of the three is already transitioning towards being essentially a 3rd party publisher. Microsoft seem likely to potentially even just start releasing essentially custom PC's and maybe even letting other hardware makers release custom hardware pc's with a gaming custom version of windows..... As it is the Xbox OS is basically a custom version of windows 8.
