As part of the 2023 Annual Meeting, the NAM hosted a scientific symposium titled, “Women’s Health: From Cells to Society” on October 9, 2023. The event was held both virtually and in person at the National Academy of Sciences Building in Washington, DC.
In addition, NAM Members hosted Interest Group sessions on the first day of the meeting Sunday, October 8. Interest groups bring together NAM members from a variety of disciplines to engage and convene on the most current topics affecting science, medicine, technology, and health. The NAM recognizes that this event is held on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which is celebrated on the second Monday of October in many parts of the United States, including Washington, D.C., and recognizes the resilience and diversity of Indigenous Peoples in the United States. We acknowledge that colonialization of the Americas led to the deaths of millions of Indigenous Peoples and the forced assimilation of those who survived. The importance of honoring the historical and contemporary experience of the original inhabitants of our nation has never been clearer.
