As a combined Christmas and Valentine’s gift, my husband surprised me with a trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee. We headed down on Saturday morning and spent the rest of the weekend touring the area. Upon arriving, we drove to the top of Lookout Mountain. Instead of paying $20 each for admission to Rock City, we found our own scenic overlook and snapped a photo.
We were told that we absolutely had to visit Ruby Falls, so we did pay for that attraction. It was definitely the highlight of our trip. The tour began with an elevator ride 260 feet into the heart of Lookout Mountain.
After we exited the elevator into the cavern, our guide took us on a
1/2-mile walk to a 145-foot waterfall, located 1,120 feet underground. It was spectacular!
Have you been to Ruby Falls? If not, I highly recommend it.
Wow, looks like you had a wonderful trip. Everything looks spectacular! Especially ruby falls
I know someone who was on a cave tour once when a strong earthquake hit. They lost power in the cave – pitch black – loose rocks falling. They were lucky to get out unharmed (no elevator at that one, only stairs).
Yikes! What cave was it? This cave is located on a fault line, but we were told that it's an inactive fault line, so no possibilities of an earthquake.
Ellie
Don't worry – it was not a cave in this country. It was in Southeast Asia. But Oklahoma has been having more quakes and shakes than California, so look out Midwest!
You got that right. Oklahoma has been having a little too much shakin
That looks so cool! Wish I could go there!
That photo is beautiful. Have not been here but would love to check it out. Have you been to Niagra Falls? Gotta go !!
Thank you, Johnna! We went to Niagara Falls when I was very young, so I don't remember much. I hope to take a trip there with my husband someday!
Ellie

My husband and I will be having a special getaway for a couple of days next month to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. I can not wait!!

The pictures look beautiful. I love the waterfall picture. I'm glad you had a wonderful Valentines Day trip.
We had a Snowy Valentines Day here in Illinois.
Thank you! It was cold down here in TN, too, but we were glad that it wasn't snowing.
Ellie
Never been to Ruby Falls. Have you been to the Bahamas?
Were is Niagara Falls?
Nope, never been to the Bahamas, but I hear it's lovely. Niagara Falls is on the border of New York, USA, and Ontario, Canada.
Ellie
I went to the Bahamas when I was 13. I got sick the day before we were to leave end up in the Miami Hospital for a week. It sucked.
I like the ruby colour, it is good idea for Valetines Day.
I didn't even think about that, but you're right!
Ellie
Don't you think that was what your Mr Handsome was thinking?
Bless his dear heart he did that just for you Ellie!
Chattanooga is a fun city. I've been to Rock City, Ruby Falls, and Lookout Mountain and enjoyed all three of them a lot. The Tennessee Aquarium and IMAX Theater are awesome as well.
We also went to the aquarium and really enjoyed it. We stopped by the IMAX, but the tickets were all sold out. 🙁 I guess we have a reason to go back.
Ellie
Did you go see the Bates while you were there?
The Bates live in Knoxville, which isn't near Chattanooga. 🙂
Ellie
We were on our way home from Florida [we live in indiana] last fri…the 12th…but we went to go see where the bates live…found there house it looked very quiet around there didnt see any action!! wished we could've saw some people outside…how do u think they feel about random people just stopping by???
Hi there,
I wouldn't recommend stopping by unannounced, as that could be seen as an invasion of their privacy. You are welcome to contact them at info@thebatesfamily.com.
They have also chosen to share information about the church they attend, and they welcome visitors: http://www.batesfamilyblog.com/2015/10/visit-bates-at-church.html
Hope this helps. 🙂
