First comes love… I mean sun, then comes a pool, then comes an outdoor shower booth! Isn’t that how it goes? 😉 We actually have wanted an outdoor shower for awhile, even without a pool. We live so close to the beach, so having a spot to quickly rinse off sandy feet is a really nice addition! With our remodel it was a perfect time to add one to the side of our home.

We really didn’t have the best spot, because of our deck addition, so decided to make a spot at the backyard entrance. It is in front of our gate, and it ended up looking great from the front too! Little a little shower booth!

We live in an older area with a lot of historical homes, our home was built in the 1950’s. Our home doesn’t have a garage and actually many homes around here have detached garages. It was an adjustment when we moved here from Utah, where we left a really nice large two car garage. But now we don’t even think of it. We added a bike shed too, (I will share that later).

This was the start of the shower, we did have our awesome contractor build this. I noticed a home right off the beach that had an outdoor shower with a surfboard as the back, and loved that idea! Kevin found this surfboard for our outdoor shower, he said it “looked like me”…if I am going to look like a surfboard, I am good with this one 🙂

They made a drain for the shower that connected to the gutter, which I thought was so smart! A drain isn’t totally necessary, but we preferred it to water running right in front of where you walk up to the deck.

They made a cement pad and built a frame then wrapped it was Azek. We decided we wanted a door, because then it could also be used as a place to change.

Next we had to decide on a tile. The title we selected had to be able to withstand frost and winter in Connecticut, and this small penny tile can! Someone suggested writing a word in the tile, which was a really fun suggestion and why not! So we came up with Sunkissed. We did ask for ideas on my Instagram and some of the top suggestions were- “get naked”, “splish, splash”, and “aloha”!

Our contractor installed the tile and words while we were traveling! I was going to have them wait so I could lay it out, but just said to go for it. It felt like it needed something else with the word. So I tried a couple different things….

This sun was a favorite option, I could have added some yellow to it. But it was a little too late…I found the yellow after I had taken the sun down, and then the yellow turned into this….

A lot of little flowers. This was my kids and Kevins favorite so we went with the flowers! I was worried it would be too busy with the floral surfboard, but at the end of the day, it is just a fun outdoor shower!

I did a white grout, which really changed the look of the penny tile. Not sure what grout I would have liked better, but it is still fun.

Who wouldn’t get a smile opening up the door and getting to take a shower in the sun?! Added a hook to the back of the door and a little caddy for the shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Metal Caddy // Amber Bottles // Label Maker for bottles

The shower faucet is great!!! I love how it has a spot to wash your feet and also a handheld sprayer (find it here).

I will do a full backyard tour soon! I am thankful we are able to expand our enjoyment of our small home into the backyard.
What a cute shower! Have you added up the cost of all of your updates this past year? Are you willing to share?
I’d be interested in the cost of the outdoor shower! We also live by the beach and have been wanting to do this for some time! I can’t get over how cute the surfboard is and the tile floor! So charming as always!!
I love your home Brooke! Thanks for sharing with us.
Oh thank you Jen!!
