GUWAHATI: In four separate operations, Assam Police seized four godowns of illegal ‘Burmese supari’ in Chirang district on Friday night. The estimated market value of the seized Burmese supari (betel nuts) is Rs 10 crore, said Chirang Police.
Police arrested main kingpin Kurban Ali and his 8 associates during the operations. Incriminating evidences such as bags with markings of foreign countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar were also seized along with CCTV footages, said police.
“Last night at around 11 pm, four teams of Chirang Police led by the SP Chirang, ASP HQ DSP HQ & SDPO Bijni conducted 4 operations & seized 4 godowns of Burmese Supari market value of which is estimated to be Rs10 crores,” Chirang police tweeted.
