Five years is a big deal in cancer terms because if you make it that long without any recurrence, the chances of it coming back drop significantly. It will go away,” but it didn’t for a long, long time. And even when, amid those things, I did get a mild case of COVID and recovered, the anxiety remained. Today, I live very much the way I did before COVID and cancer, but at times, I still feel my body tensing around crowds and unpredictable situations. Just as having cancer has forever changed me, COVID did, too.

A middle school teacher in Idaho is speaking out after she was forced by school officials to remove a poster from her classroom that pushed her "personal opinion." Inama told local news station KTVB:“They told me that they were in violation of district policy because, in today’s political environment, they’re considered a personal opinion." In any case, Inama told KTVB that she is deeply worried by the message the district's move is sending. Who would have guessed classeroom posters saying “everyone is welcome here” would make a teacher or school liable for “punishment.” Perhaps we shoild have .

Gene Hackman was found dead in his home on Feb. 26. Vera Anderson via Getty ImagesWhen the news broke about the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, my stomach dropped. At the same time, professional help is only becoming more expensive and harder to find. We urgently need better policies: better workplace accommodations for caregivers, financial support to ease the burden, and expanded access to professional caregiving services. Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisementTo me, the deaths of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa are a wake-up call.

Trump sycophant Washington Post reporters have largely avoided this subject. Reporters at the Post know writing anything unfavorable to Trump is a liability at the Bezos Post. I learned that my husband, Q, lied about having a vasectomy the same day I found out I was pregnant. Another part of me was terrified to raise my kids and go to graduate school alone without even the specter of another adult. The morning after I told Q I was pregnant, we sat at the kitchen table, both of our eyes puffy, while our kids watched cartoons. I told Q that I was so angry that he’d trapped my body inside of this decision. I was about to lose my marriage and throw myself into the risk of a career change, graduate school and single parenting.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor will no longer give its employees backup child care and certain other perks, according to an internal announcement obtained by HuffPost. Emergency backup day care, child care subsidies, and an employee mental health program are apparently the latest casualties in efforts by billionaire Elon Musk to slash the federal bureaucracy for President Donald Trump. The Labor Department’s internal notice said the changes would take effect early in May but that backup day care — something workers can use if their kid’s school is closed or their regular day care provider is unavailable — was already canceled last month except for previously scheduled visits. “We have hundreds of thousands of federal workers who have not been showing up to work,” Trump said in a speech to a joint session of Congress last week. Any federal bureaucrat who resists this change will be removed from office immediately.”Spokespeople for the Labor Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I decided to do a 30-day TV detox in an attempt to regain control of my life before it was too late. I wanted to eat better, sleep better, be better. I knew that if I didn’t replace watching TV with another (ideally healthier) habit, I wouldn’t make it to the 30-day mark. TV felt safe, but really it kept me paralyzed. I even met with a TV writing coach to discuss my secret dream of working in a writer’s room, contributing ideas for great shows.

Now, I serve in the Ukrainian army — not because I am choosing war but because the violence came to my doorstep three years ago. When I think about peace, I think about my family and how it has grown. After three years of war — a war that has killed our friends, injured me and threatened my family — hearing such words is unbearable. I used to think this answer was American in principle, and in the spring of 2022, most Americans stood with us. I think of him when I hear American leaders say Ukraine is responsible for this war.

Are you a male or female in there?” a rumbling voice called into the women’s restroom. Did a kid’s mother report me to her husband for looking too much like a man in the women’s room? I have to choose between a women’s or men’s restroom in most public spaces, as unisex bathrooms are uncommon. Anyone who pushes back on my use of the women’s room suspects that I am a trans woman. A “closed for cleaning” sign was braced across the door of the women’s restroom.

President Donald Trump told Washington Post reporter Michael Birnbaum Sunday that he had lost credibility for asking whether Vladimir Putin was disrespecting him during an exchange on Air Force One. Trump praised Putin as a genius when he launched the incursion. “Is President Putin disrespecting you by attacking Ukraine when you’re trying to make peace there, Mr. President?” Birnbaum repeated. “I’m Michael Birnbaum, Washington Post,” the reporter said. Birnbaum later shared that Trump did eventually answer one of his questions, “indicating, perhaps, that the Washington Post can live to fight another day.”Last month Trump clashed with HuffPost’s S.V.

CCHR, a Mental Health Industry Watchdog Increases its Campaign to Educate Parents on Preventing Forced Mental Health Screening of SchoolchildrenLOS ANGELES - March 10, 2025 - PRLog -- The Citizens Commission on Human Rights International (CCHR), a mental health industry watchdog, has stepped up its nationwide campaign to increase parents' awareness of the risks associated with mental health screening in schools. [5]Exacerbating this concern is the widespread use of school-based mental health screenings. Further, "Encouraging mental health screening for children is unsupported by scientific evidence and amounts to a reckless public health experiment on children. However, CCHR warns that much broader protections are needed to safeguard children and adolescents from coercive psychiatric practices in schools. On its website, CCHR provides a Parents: Get the Facts—Know Your Rights resource page, which includes a Parent's Exemption Form to opt children out of mental health screenings in schools.

Driven by love of the country and a desire for adventure, my family acquired long-stay visas and moved to France in December 2023. It was important to us that our move not be driven by fear or frustration — but it was impossible not to reflect on the ways that France felt superior to the U.S. We chose Bordeaux as our home base, having fallen in love with the city on previous visits to France. I appreciated the new relationships we were slowly building, but I missed our family and close friends most of all. Real life is about what happens beyond the headlines and the highlight reels.
