See a Man Eating Shark & More at 2024 Sculptures at Scratchley

Head out to see Sculptures at Scratchley. This free indoor and outdoor sculpture exhibition at Fort Scratchley is on now until Sunday 26 May.

This is the art extravaganza which brought us the large whale at Fort Scratchley. The sculpture’s name is ‘Bleeching’ by Michael Greve and was the winner of 2023 Sculptures at Scratchley. It’s still on display at Fort Scratchley.

Sculptures at Scratchley will run from Saturday 11 May to Sunday 26 May. (Closed on Tuesdays).

It features a range of different artworks and it’s a great free day out for the whole family.

This year’s event is bigger and better than last year’s with 75 artists and 150 artworks. So many amazing artworks including Man Eating Shark.

It’s free to enter Fort Scratchley and see the exhibition. You can purchase a catalogue for $10 which has details of the different sculptures including the artist and materials. It also contains a ballot for the People’s Choice Awards.

Thanks to Out of the Square, the Major Partner of Sculptures at Scratchley.

There will be 150 sculptures created by national artists located around Fort Scratchley.

You’ll find some on the grassy areas, other by the buildings and some in the Fort Scratchley Function Centre, offering artists a secure and weatherproof space for their installations.

As well as admiring the creativity of these artists, you can enjoy spectacular views over Nobbys Beach towards Port Stephens, city and harbour views.

Walk around the lawn areas of Fort Scratchley and you’ll see all kinds of different sculptures.

At the 2024 Sculptures at Scratchley, sculptures in the exhibition are created from a variety of materials including fibreglass foam, glass mosaics, steel, limestone, ceramic, recycled metal and timber.

Each sculpture has information near it so you can read what the sculpture is all about as well as the materials used.

Take your time and see the sculptures at your own pace. Last year, on a sunny day, we saw plenty of people relaxing on the lawn of Fort Scratchley admiring the sculptures and the views.

There are so many remarkable sculptures, big and small to discover around Fort Scratchley including inside the buildings as well as the Function Centre.

The hardest thing is voting for your favourite in the People’s Choice Award.
