34 Weird and Wonderful Celebrity Baby Names

Celebrity baby names have become newsworthy in recent years. People are obsessed with finding out what name their favorite entertainers are going to christen their child with. Paris Hilton is one of the most recent celebrity mothers to announce her child’s name, and surprisingly, it’s pretty normal. She and her husband Carter Reum went with Phoenix, which is a strong name that doesn’t veer too far into the category of weird baby names. 

Hilton is a bit of an anomaly though, with more and more celebrities deciding to go with wacky names for their newborn babies. For some reason, famous people think normal names like Peter, John, Olivia, or Sophie just don’t cut it and feel the need to name their child something unique. They choose names that stand out from the crowd and have people either marveling at the originality or shaking their heads in shock at the name these children are given. 

Some celebrity couples name their children after their favorite places, like Jimmy Fallon and his wife Nancy Juvonen who called one of their daughters Winnie after Lake Winnipesaukee, while others like tech billionaire Elon Musk and musician Grimes went for something extreme, naming their first child X Æ A-Xii, also known as X for short. 

To give you a glimpse at how the Hollywood mind works, here is a collection of some of the strangest baby names and the meanings behind them. 

1. Stormi and Aire

Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott have had two children together, Stormi and Aire. Stormi was born in 2018 and Aire in 2022. Fun fact: Aire was originally called Wolf, but the couple decided that was a little too weird.

2. Egypt and Genesis

These are the names of singer Alica Keys and producer Swizz Beatz kids. Egypt was born in 2010 and named after a trip Keys took to the African nation, while Genesis, born in 2014, comes from the Bible. 

3. Nova Tennessee

The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and Inglourious Basterds actress Diane Kruger have one child together, a baby girl named Nova Tennessee. It is Reedus’ second child after his former partner Helena Christensen gave birth to a son in 1999, and Kruger’s first. Chatting with People, Kruger discussed the origins of the name. 

“I had her late in life at 42, and (Norman) had a child when he was much younger. ‘Nova’ in Latin means new beginning, and a nova star keeps changing and is reborn. And we love Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains; we do motorcycle trips there.”

4. Nakoa-Wolf

Sounding like a tribal name, Nakoa-Wolf is the government name of Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa’s baby boy. Born in 2008, his full name is Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. 

5. Lea de Seine

Born to famous parents Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk, Lea de Seine is named after Skayk’s grandmother Galina. Talking with Harper’s Bazaar, Shayk added that “The second part is the Seine, like the river in Paris.”

6. Khai

Not as strange as some of the names on this list, you still don’t meet too many people name Khai. That’s the name of model Gigi Hadid and ex-partner Zayn Malik’s child, born in 2020. 

7. Grace Warrior

Bindi Irwin’s name is unique in itself, so it’s not surprising she went with an interesting name for her first child. Born in 2021, Grace Warrior is Irwin’s baby with husband Chandler Powell. “Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior,” Bindi wrote on Instagram.

8. Sylvester Apollo

Model Emily Ratajkowski and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard had a child they called Sylvester Apollo in 2021. Nobody is quite sure about the name but some believe it has a Rocky connection, with Sylvester Stallone playing the titular character and Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) being Rocky’s opponent in the movie. 

9. Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III

Coming up with a nickname for your child that has nothing to do with them is a bit strange, but that’s what Brittany and Patrick Mahomes did when their first child was born in 2022. 

“My brother, Jackson, [came up with Bronze’s nickname]. We were going with Trey at first because the third obviously and everything like that,” Mahomes said when appearing on Audacy’s 610 Sports Radio. “I started meeting more and more people with the nickname Trey, and Jackson came up to me and was like, ‘What about Bronze?’ I kind of have the metal thing going with Sterling and all that, and I thought it was a great idea, and I think it’s something I’m glad we came up with. I haven’t seen anybody else do that… I like it.”

10. Nahla and Maceo

Halle Berry has two children with two different fathers with interesting names. The first, a girl named Nahla, was fathered by her then-model boyfriend Gabriel Aubry in 2008. The second child was with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez, a boy named Maceo. 

11. Malibu Barbie 

Giving birth to her first child in 2022,  American YouTuber and singer Trisha Paytas went with an unconventional name; Malibu Barbie. The name caused quite a reaction online, with people divided on whether it is an appropriate name for a child. We just hope the kid grows up liking The Simpsons. 

12. Wilde Wolf

Rapper Eve and Gumball 3000 founder Maximillion Cooper had their first child in 2022. A boy, they named him Wilde Wolf Fife Alexander Somers Cooper.

13. Lyra Antarctica and Jupiter

Ed Sheeran has two girls with his childhood friend and wife Cherry Seabron. The first, born Lyra Antarctica, arrived in 2020, while Jupiter was birthed in 2022. 

14. Camden, Jaxon, and Saylor

Before getting a divorce, former The Hills star Kristin Cavallari and former football player Jay Cutler had three children together. The first, a son named Camden, came in 2012, then a second boy, Jaxon, arrived in 2014, before the pair had a daughter, Saylor, in 2015. 

15. North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm

When Kanye West and Kim Kardashian got together in 2012, few predicted the relationship would last as long as it did. The two married in 2014 and had four children before calling it quits in 2022.

The eldest of the four kids is North West, who was born in 2013 and got her name after people kept complimenting Kim Kardashian and Kanye West for choosing such a unique name, even though North was far from their first choice. She was followed by Saint West in 2015.

The couple’s third and fourth children were conceived via surrogacy. Chicago West takes her name from the famous city her dad grew up in while Pslam West’s name takes inspiration from the Book of Psalms in the Bible. 

16. Pilot Inspektor, Casper, Sonny, and Alberta

Actor Jason Lee had his first child, Pilot Inspektor, in 2003 when he was engaged to actress Beth Riesgraf. The name is said to be inspired by Grandaddy’s song “He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot.” His other three children, Casper, Sonny, and Alberta, have come during his relationship with his current wife Ceren Alkaç. 

17. Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir

Beyonce and Jay-Z seem like an unusual couple at first, but when you consider they are both mega-successful artists at the top of their game who live totally different lives to the rest of us, you can see why they ended up together.

The duo’s first child, Blue Ivy Carter, was conceived in Paris and born in New York City in 2012. Nobody is quite sure where the name comes from, although some point to blue being Jay’s favorite color and the name of three of his albums (The Blueprint trilogy), and the number four having a significant meaning to Bey (both she and Jay are born on the 4th and were married on the 4th).

Conspiracy theorists have a darker take, saying her name is an anagram for “Eulb Yvi,” which some say is Latin for “Lucifer’s daughter,” while others believe Blue stands for “Born Living Under Evil” and “Ivy” stands for “Illuminati’s Very Youngest.” 

The couple also has twins, a girl Rumi and a boy Sir, born in 2017. Rumi is named after Bey and Jay’s favorite poet, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, while Sir according to Jay-Z, got his name because, “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

18. Apple and Moses

When Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced the baby name of their first child, the internet was quick to mock the pair. Apple Martin was born in 2004, with Paltrow chatting with Oprah about the interesting name choice. 

“Basically it was because, when we were first pregnant, her daddy said one day, if it’s a girl I think her name should be Apple, and it just sounded so sweet and it conjures such a lovely picture for me, you know apples are so sweet and they’re wholesome and it’s biblical and I just thought it sounded so lovely, and then she was born and it became an international outrage which I found surprising because there are people named Rose or Lily or Ivy or June or lots of pretty nouns.”

The couple’s son Moses was born in 2006. While not a common name, it didn’t raise eyebrows like Apple. 

19. Buddy Dessert and Birdie Joe

In 2020, the Bella twins, Nikki and Brie, gave birth to sons within the space of 22 hours of each other. This was Nikki’s first child with Russian dancer Artem Chigvintsev, with the pair settling on the name Matteo Artemovich. Brie gave birth to her second child with wrestler Daniel Bryan, a son named Buddy Dessert, joining his sister Birdie Joe who was born in 2017. Buddy is named after Daniel’s grandfather. 

20. Monroe, Moroccan Golden Sagon, Powerful Queen, Zion, Zillion, Zen, Rise Messiah, Onxy Ice Cole, Beautiful Zeppelin, Halo Marie, and Legendary Love

Nick Cannon has 12 children with six different mothers. Each has a unique name which probably makes it easier for Cannon to remember who they are. Cannon’s first children were fraternal twins Monroe and Moroccan, with then-wife Mariah Carey giving birth in 2011. He has since followed with ten more children from five different mothers.

Daughter Powerful Queen (2020) and sons Golden Sagon (2017) and Rise Messiah (2022) were convinced with Brittany Bell, Onxy Ice Cole Cannon (2022) was born to photographer LaNisha Cole, twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir (2021) and daughter Beautiful Zeppelin (2022) were birthed by DJ and radio personality Abby De La Rosa, daughter Halo Marie (2022) and son Zen (2021) – who sadly passed away from a malignant brain tumor not long after his birth – with model Alyssa Scott, and Legendary Love (2022) with Bre Tiesi.

21. Paris, Prince, and Bigi

The King of Pop didn’t go the conventional route when naming his three children. His first child with ex-wife Debbie Rowe was a boy named Paris Josepeh Jackson Jr., born in 1997. The second was a daughter, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, born the following year. His third child was born via surrogate in 2002 and was first gifted the name Prince Michael Jackson II. He was soon given the nickname Blanket before officially changing his name to Bigi in 2015. 

22. Moon, Dweezil, Ahmet, and Diva

Frank Zappa went off the deep end when naming his kids with his second wife Adelaide Gail Sloatman. He had daughter Moon Unit in 1967, son Dweezil in 1969, another son Ahmet in 1974, and lastly, daughter Diva in 1979. 

23. Seven, Puma, and Mars

Despite having three children with three different fathers, Erykah Badu manages to get along well with all her baby daddies, giving her children a great support system. Her first child was with Outkast member André 3000. They had a son, Seven Sirius Benjamin, born in 1997. After they broke up Badu entered a relationship with rapper The D.O.C. and had her second, Puma Sabti Curry, in 2004. Her third son, Mars Merkaba Thedford, was born in 2009 with help from her boyfriend at the time, Jay Electronica. 

24. Speck Wildhorse

John Mellencamp has five children from three marriages, and while four of those have normal names (Michelle, Justice, Teddi, and Hud), one has the unlucky moniker of Speck Wildhorse. 

25. Poppy, Daisy, Petal, Buddy, and River

Three of chef Jamie Oliver and former model Juliette Norton’s kids have normal names. The other two got the short end of the straw. The five kiddies’ names are Poppy Honey Rosie (2002), Daisy Boo Pamela (2003), Petal Blossom Rainbow (2009), Buddy Bear Maurice (2010), and River Rocket Blue Dallas (2016).

26. Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo

Before their marriage went tits up due to Gavin Rossdale’s infidelity, he and Gwen Stefani had three children, all boys. The first, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, was born in 2006, then Zuma Nesta Rock followed in 2008, and Apollo Bowie Flynn arrived in 2014. Of the trio, Zuma Nesta Rock certainly got the most interesting baby name. 

27. X Æ A-12 and Exa Dark Sideræl

Elon Musk and Grimes stunned the world when they announced the birth of their baby boy X Æ A-12 in 2020. It wasn’t so much that the two had a child, but the weird name they gave it. Grimes took to Twitter to reveal the reason behind the name, tweeting; “X, the unknown variable, Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence), A-12 = precursor to SR-71 (our favorite aircraft) … A=Archangel, my favorite song …metal rat.” It all makes sense now. 

In 2021, the on-again-off-again couple announced a second child born through surrogacy, giving the baby girl the slightly more normal name Exa Dark Sideræl. Apparently they call their son X and daughter Y for short, which is much easier than their actual names. 

28. Honor, Haven, and Hayes

These are the names of Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren’s kids. The two girls, Honor and Haven, were born in 2008 and 2011, while their son Hayes come along in 2018. 

29. Silas and Phineas

Singer Justin Timberlake and actress Jessica Biel have two sons. Silas was born in 2015 and Phineas in 2020. The couple’s two children have Jewish names to reflect Biel’s ancestry. 

30. Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah 

Meeting at the premier of the movie Stakeout, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore hit it off and quickly became Hollywood’s “it” couple. They married in 1987 and had three daughters before divorcing in 2000. The names of their three girls are Rumer Glenn Willis, Scout LaRue Willis, and Tallulah Belle Willis. 

31. Bear

Bear Blu Jarecki is the son of actress Alicia Silverstone and her ex-husband Christopher Jarecki. He was born in 2011. 

32. Pixie, Peaches, Fifi, and Tiger Lily

Paula Yates had four children with two men before her tragic death from a heroin overdose at age 41 in 2000. Her first three children were born while she was married to Boomtown Rats frontman Bob Geldolf. Their names are Pixie, Peaches, and Fifi, although Peaches also died of a heroin overdose in 2014.

Yates’ youngest daughter, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence, was born during her time with INXS singer Michael Hutchence, who committed suicide in 1997. 

33. Weston, Kal-El, and August Francesca

While the name of Nicolas Cage’s first son, Weston, is fairly normal, his second is a bit different. Kal-El is named after Cage’s favorite superhero, Superman. His third child, a daughter born in 2022, has an old fashioned name; August Francesca. 

34. Bronx, Saint, and Marvel

Fall Out Boy member Pete Wentz and ex-wife Ashlee Simpson had one child together, a boy named Bronx Mowgli born in 2008. After the pair divorced, Wentz got together with Meagan Camper and had two more children, Saint Lazslo born in 2014, and Marvel Jane in 2018.
