The Issue: Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch’s changes to the NYPD following a recent scandal.
Keep up the good work, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch (“Police Plaza purge,” Dec. 29).
The NYPD is full of hard-working, dedicated men and women who are more than capable of filling any openings you have — as long as Mayor Adams stays out of the way.
Adams, the stench that is coming from the upper ranks of the NYPD and city government offices is your doing. You need to step back and let Tisch do the job she is capable of doing.
To all of the honest NYPD employees, keep your faith and hold your heads high. You are still the best law-enforcement agency in the world. The commissioner is cleaning house, and the stench created by Adams will soon dissipate.

Tisch needs to take a deep dive into the history of police misconduct — overtime abuse is just one aspect to consider. When you have misconduct at the white-collar level, it is the worst possible scenario, undermining the very fabric of policing.
It is generally assumed that bad things are limited to the rank of a patrol officer and nobody above that can do wrong. If you dig into Internal Affairs’ files over the years, you will find little identified misconduct in those ranks. The Internal Affairs files need the same spotlight as the Civilian Complaint Review Board’s files.
Every generation of police officers experience different forms of corruption. It’s time to publish those facts voluntarily, or with a Freedom of Information Act request.

How many times have we heard the NYPD say it takes allegations of sexual misconduct and overtime abuse seriously with thorough investigations?
Precinct commanders are pressured to reduce crime by making arrests, which in many cases involves overtime. To lower overtime, precinct commanders flag overtime cops to other non-patrol duties.
But who is watching the NYPD’s higher echelon that is dishing out overtime to favorites? Apparently not Internal Affairs. The public will not trust the cops and the Police Department will pay the price.
Tisch is spot-on in identifying overtime abuse, cleaning house and bringing back the integrity of the greatest police department in the country.

Former Commissioner Keechant Sewell also wanted to clean house of the old boys’ network in the Police Department, but was not given the support by Adams. His micromanagement of Sewell prevented any change and led to her leaving.
Now, because of pressure for investigations, indictments and resignations, a different song is being sung in City Hall.

I urge New York City residents to encourage Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch to run for mayor this next election.
The Harvard-educated official has impressed many people during her years as commissioner of three important city agencies. She’s highlighted her ability to address quality-of-life issues by waging war against rats and taking steps to make the streets cleaner during her tenure as sanitation commissioner. She worked on technology issues as Commissioner of the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
Now, she is being praised for her efforts to get rid of bad apples within the police force.
Her goal is to get the job done, and she is showing that she won’t tolerate corruption under her watch. New York City deserves the best, and I think Tisch is what we need.

Newly minted NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch is cleaning out the corruption and cronyism that have plagued the Police Department since ex-NYPD captain Eric Adams entered Gracie Mansion.
Tisch’s experience with cleaning up the garbage as the former sanitation commissioner will come in handy as she starts making right at One Police Plaza.
