Paul L. "Whit" Whitcomb

Paul Whitcomb, 93, died August 21, 2023 at Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord. He was born  November 13, 1929,  and leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Patricia (Allen)Whitcomb of  Warner, NH. He was the son of Harry Whitcomb and Etta (Knowles) Whitcomb of Concord.

Born at the start of the Depression, and after losing his mother at 4 years old, he became a ward of the State and was sent to live on a farm with other boys in Webster, and later Boscawen, where he was raised and worked. He graduated from Concord High School and joined the U.S. army and served in the signal corp. learning Morse Code and training in the snow mountains of Japan during the Korean war.  After his discharge, he was hired by Public Service Co. of N.H. starting out in Contoocook and moving to Hillsboro in 1972 when the company relocated there. He retired after 32 years as a lineman. After retirement, he worked part-time for Hopkinton Fair Assoc. building and doing maintenance.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughters, Joanne F. Miller and husband Scott of Webster, Jane Kelly and husband Bob of New Boston; and sons, Paul Scott Whitcomb and wife Tammy of Deering and Jonathan Whitcomb and wife Sylvie from Lee. He leaves 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

After his marriage, he built a rich and full life devoted to his treasured family and  friends.  His wit and humor left us all realizing that “laughter is the best medicine”.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman making many trips by plane into the Allagash waterway in northern Maine, and trips to the lakes of Chibougamau in Canada. He loved skiing the different ski areas in NH and VT and once skied Tuckerman's Ravine. He was a woodworking craftsman and loved building furniture. Paul was a committed Trustee of the Congregational Church in Webster and instrumental in coordinating the restoration of its 200 year old building.
A church service honoring his life and celebrating all the gifts he left us with will be held at 11:00am October 21st at the First Congregational Church of Webster, 1013 Long Street in Webster, followed by a reception at the Webster Town Hall at 945 Battle Street.
