Lord Lingaraj has been going hungry since last evening due to a dispute between servitors of Pujapanda Nijog and Badu Nijog. The conflict over 'Paita Lagi Niti' has led to non-observance of rituals, inciting outrage among devotees. The issue, ongoing since 2015 and currently in court, has prompted protests demanding the resumption of rituals.

The JMFC court pronounced its verdict and sentenced accused Kundu Mohapatra to a jail term of 18 months. Police had produced a charge-sheet against him in four days. 

Devotees throng Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar and offered prayers on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has made elaborate security arrangements for the Maha Shivratri celebration.

Devotees have been restricted from carrying plastics and polythene bags inside the temple. The temple's administration issued a directive that all these rules should be strictly followed. Moreover, the Lingaraj temple administration has decided to prepare Kotha Bhoga of the Lord by using Omfed ghee only.

As per the direction of the Lingaraj temple administration, none including servitors will be allowed to enter the shrine chewing paan or guthka.  Similarly, chewing such things inside the shrine is also not allowed.
