In this one-time class students will get a jump start on Fifth and Sixth Grade English as they learn about idioms.

Class Experience

There are so many different ways to say the same things and idioms make the English Language fun. Students will learn about different idioms and how they can be used to make writing more interesting. Through a series of exercises, students will match idioms with meanings, complete sentences, and write a paragraph using at least two idioms.  There will be a great opportunity to explore writing in a creative way when students create their own fun idioms for a short paragraph which they will read in claas.

Learning Goals

In this class students will learn all about idioms. They will learn how to identify idioms in sentences and interpret the meanings. Students will complete exercises and create a short paragraph with idioms they create.

Hello my name is Jacqueline Bartley. I have been teaching learners of different ages for over 15 years. I enjoy teaching English, some Math and Social Studies. I have been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) for over 3 years and I am TOEFL and TESOL certified. I enjoy teaching children and experience great joy when I can help them understand subjects they might think are  hard. 
I earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Management Education and a Master's certificate in College Teaching.   My philosophy on education is centered on the words by Vernon Howard, “Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn and you will.” I believe that every new day is an opportunity to learn something new and education can be a catalyst that can propel anyone to achieve their goals in life.

Something personal and fun about me is my love of travel, I have lived in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States.  Looking forward to seeing your child in class.
