@GerardM @jhsoby What's the opinion of the langcom?

Change 541091 had a related patch set uploaded (by Mbch331; owner: Mbch331):
[mediawiki/extensions/Wikibase@master] Add monolingual language code lcm (Tungag)

Hoi,
I fail to see what the benefit will be of this. I have put a proposal to
the language committee that will make the efforts useful and usable. I am
awaiting their response.

At this time for me there is a no.
Thanks,

GerardM

What's the problem? Looks valid to me.

There is no point in accepting an inferior method when another, a better
way is being considered. As I indicated this method does not bring any
benefits to the table.
Thanks,

While I agree with Gerard that we need a better process for these additions, that's no reason to block this. Until we have actually a better process in place, we should continue as before. Looks good to me too, so I say go ahead with the patch.

Hoi,
So you are fine having people work using a method that does not provide a
benefit for no good reason? When we can agree on the proposal that is on
the table, the work done in this restricted way will be of no use. That is
a travesty.
Thanks,

GerardM

It seems the objection isn't about this particular language code so I would like to move this forward and get the patch merged so the people who are asking for this language code to be added can create monolingual text statements using it.

Yes. Methods and technologies can always be improved, but in the meantime let's not block stuff.

Hoi,
Please explain what purpose it will serve.

Given that it is a natural language that is actually spoken, full service
in labels and descriptions will serve its potential audience. You can go
ahead and install this and once the language committee agrees to a change
whereby Wikidata becomes available with no requirement for full
localisation of MediaWiki. The most used messages for Wikipedia / Wikidata
would serve for both.

I really want the language committee to decide one way or the other so that
we can move forward properly. (it does not need to take more than a week)
Thanks,

GerardM

@GerardM Now it's clear for everybody why you're objecting. That's not because you're against the language to be used for monolingual, but you want it to be used in a more broad sense. If you would have explained that earlier (instead of your vague statement) there would be no discussion and plans to move forward. So next time, just explain that you've proposed to have the language used for labels etc. that makes the discussion more clear for others.
