Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- Type something in the V22 search bar until you get a suggestion (e.g. type "sugo")
- Select any suggestion using the arrow keys. Your search box should now contain the title of the suggestion you've selected. (e.g. select "Sugon")
- Type some more until the suggestion disappears (e.g. "Sugondese")
- Hit enter.
What happens?:
The search box clears and gets you to another page at the same time. causing the same behavior you get when you press enter on an empty search box, a.k.a. going to Special:Search
What should have happened instead?:
The behavior should've been the same as if I typed all of that into the search box and clicked enter. (e.g. I get redirected to "Ligma joke")
Software version (skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.):
Reproduced on the latest versions of Firefox and MS Edge, circa 2024-02-22
Pretty sure this has been an issue since release, just that I've only recently figured out the exact way to cause this
