Steve McQueen’s former Malibu beach house is for sale
Today Malibu is one of California’s most expensive and popular beach towns, with actors such as Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Stone owning properties there. But when McQueen lived there, it was still a remote area near Los Angeles, popular only with surfers and the locals. #design #inspiration #interiors #architecture

The interiors of New York’s Zaytinya are like a mini-trip to the Med
Located on the ground floor of the newly opened Ritz-Carlton New York NoMad hotel, Zaytinya by José Andrés is a blue and gold tribute to its Mediterranean influences. Rockwell Group designed the space, which looks straight onto West 28th Street from its huge, wraparound windows – dedicated people-watchers can claim a spot on the window-side blue banquette. New York’s Nubeluz cocktail bar floats amid the skyscrapers
Nubeluz by José Andrés is located on the 50th floor of the Ritz-Carlton, NoMad, and its vast expanse of windows ensures every seat is the best spot, particularly as night descends and the lights twinkle on. However, its interiors – created by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio – are arguably just as impressive. Photography: Bjorn Wallander/Nubeluz #design #inspiration #interiors #architecture

Al Coro reframes classic Italian dining through a moody Manhattan lens
Architecture firm MN designed the space, which was previously run by chef Mario Batali as Del Posto. It’s undergone some big changes since it closed in 2020, with its new owners Jeff Katz and chef Melissa Rodriguez, killing off what some described as its predecessor’s ‘New Jersey funeral home’ atmosphere through its interior reinvention. Soho House’s new LA club is a love letter to the city’s midcentury art movement

An invisible house is for rent in Joshua Tree, California
From other viewpoints, the mirage-like California property acts as a mirror, reflecting surrounding rocks, cacti and evening skies. The ‘horizontal skyscraper’ was designed in 2019 by American Psycho film producer Chris Hanley in collaboration with architect and Frank Gehry collaborator Tomas Osinski. Oiji Mi imagines the golden era of Manhattan through a Korean lens
AvroKO designed the interiors of this Flatiron restaurant, which fuses New York glamour with Korean tradition. At first glance, Oiji Mi’s mirrored panels, reeded glass and leather upholstery are every inch the Manhattan social club – however, a second look reveals the Korean heritage incorporated into its design. Inside a ‘future proof’ Miami Beach home by Rene Gonzalez
Rene Gonzalez’s design has a robust brutalist form, raised on stilts so water can run underneath it. The Miami architect built the home in 2018 as the first of a series of elevated homes in Miami Beach in response to the city’s increased flooding issues relating to sea level rises. Eavesdrop channels the spirit of Japan’s 1950s listening bars in New York
Eavesdrop’s interiors were led by co-owner Danny Taylor and are informed by his experience designing spaces and audio experiences for hotels and record studios. Many of the elements are handmade and shaped to amplify the ambient sound – following in the footsteps of Japanese bars designed to immerse guests in the music rather than the social experience. #design #inspiration #interiors
