Tuna and Sweetcorn Pasta
You can make this recipe as it is, or see the last instruction to make a tuna and sweetcorn pasta bake recipe. (Some might say the latter tastes slightly better, but it depends how much time you have.) The former makes a quick, healthy and easy after-work dinner to cook when you get home.
Missy suddenly started requesting tuna – even though until recently she didn’t like it. I think it might simply be because our cat loves it. The best way is to keep trying, I find. So I remembered the kind of tuna pasta sauce recipes my friends and I used to cook as students.
This makes a hot meal of pasta with tuna and sweetcorn, rather than a tuna and sweetcorn pasta salad. (For a tuna pasta salad I cheat completely and just stir sandwich filling with tuna, mayonnaise and sweetcorn into cooked pasta. Job done. Why not save time where you can?)
As far as I remember, this was about what went into our favourite tuna and sweetcorn pasta recipe from those days. (It was over half my life ago!) It doesn’t really matter which type of canned tuna you use – flakes or chunks both work well. The main thing is – my six-year-old liked it! Double thumbs up. Hurrah.
Serves 4
Tuna and sweetcorn pasta ingredients
- Olive oil, for frying
- Red onion, 1, chopped
- Sugar, 1 tsp
- Garlic, 2 cloves, crushed or chopped
- Passata, 1 carton
- Tuna, 1 tin, drained
- Sweetcorn, 1 tin, drained
- Button mushrooms, a few, sliced
- Worcester sauce, 1 tbsp
- Basil, fresh 1 stem, or dried 1 tsp
- Parsley, fresh a few stems, or dried 1 tsp
To serve
- Pasta shapes (of your choice)
- Cheddar cheese, grated (optional)
- Freshly ground black pepper

How to make tuna and sweetcorn pasta…
- Heat a dash of olive oil in a saucepan, then add the onion and fry for a few minutes, stirring often.
- Add the sugar and then the garlic and stir, then add the passata, followed by the rest of the ingredients.
- Stir well, then simmer on a low heat while you cook the pasta as per pack instructions.
- Once the pasta is cooked, drain and serve with the sauce. This tuna pasta is yummy with sprinkling of grated cheddar and a twist of freshly ground black pepper.

Alternatively, drain the pasta then mix with the sauce. Transfer to a suitable baking dish and sprinkle some grated cheddar over the top. Bake for around 15-20 minutes at 180 degrees fan or equivalent, before serving as a tuna and sweetcorn pasta bake.
