President & CEO, The Summit Federal Credit Union
Years in current role: 3
What is one goal you have for the next year?
I currently serve on the Board of the New York Credit Union Association and have had the opportunity to advocate and support the interests of credit unions across the state in my volunteer capacity. Most recently I took part in the planning and coordination of a New York Credit Union CEO Roundtable. Rochester-area credit unions banded together to plan the event which will take place in Canandaigua in just a few short weeks. My goal for next year is to continue to build my credit union network and further forge relationships across the industry. The credit union community is cooperative by nature. Continuing to collaborate, share expertise, and combine strengths will better allow us to deliver exceptional value to our members and promote financial well-being.
What is one thing you would change about Rochester if you could?
The level of poverty is certainly at the top of my list. The fact that Rochester was listed as one of the poorest cities in the United States is heartbreaking. Poverty affects individuals and families in many different ways, including an increased risk of mental health issues, health care access and addiction. If the level of poverty was significantly reduced, the entire Rochester community would be positively affected.
How do you manage work/life balance?
I think I manage it through mindset. I believe that achieving work-life balance is a journey and not a destination. It’s cyclical and it’s never perfect. Work and home demands can be unpredictable. Striving for perfection is unrealistic to me and only serves to create undue stress. Cultivating self-awareness and understanding our limits and preferences is so important. I have personally learned to carefully assess new opportunities and have given myself permission to say no. Prioritizing social connections, such as my monthly dinner date with my neighbors and traveling with my family, helps keep me centered.
