Testimonials

Hi my name is Jeff and I identify as an addict.

I originally found “Recovery Underground” Discord server when I was fairly new to recovery.

I came from the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, but was looking for something new and different in addition to supplementing my recovery. The Recovery Underground server introduced me to Narcotics Anonymous and their approach to recovery. At the time I was a member of AA, but soon I started getting involved with the Recovery Underground server’s N.A. meetings that they offered.

Not long after I got the courage to seek out and begin attending in person NA meetings. The support I felt and relationships I formed from Recovery Underground, and eventually the in person meetings, helped me in ways I could have never imagined. I enjoyed the in person meetings and still do to this day, however, being very new (and not having yet found a home group) I didn’t find a lot of opportunities to be of service in the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous. Recovery Underground absolutely fulfilled that need.

One of my favorite things about the Recovery Underground server was that there was no “clean time requirement” in order for me to be able to be of service. I was given support and encouragement and eventually afforded the responsibility of helping to facilitate recovery meetings as a “Meeting Chair”. This absolutely encouraged me along my journey and taught me the importance of the newcomer in the rooms. I absolutely could identify with someone that was on “day zero” because I knew what that felt like. Recovery Underground not only encouraged me to get a sponsor and start working steps, but to this day it gives me a sense of belonging to something bigger than me. A power greater than myself as the N.A. literature describes it.

I am still a member of Narcotics Anonymous to this day, and am very grateful for RU having facilitated a safe place for people like me.

Living in a rural area with no programs locally, Recovery Underground has been paramount in maintaining my sobriety — I don’t think I’d be over a year sober without it.
