Nintendo Entertainment System Demo Unit

The NES M82 Demo / Display Unit --the PAL demo station stores used to showcase Nintendo's 8-bit games in Europe-- is a very rare contraption that lets you plug in up to 12 NES cartridges. To own a fully working unit look no further than this NES M82 eBay auction.

Oh, it's a Vectrex 3D Imager!

Haven't seen one of those for quite some time, but I do have to admit that the Vectrex 3D Imager headset seems incredibly elegant when compared to today's headsets. It's not much of a VR system admittedly, but it will allow you to play certain Vectrex games in stereoscopic 3D, and that was hugely impressive back then. That is also very rare today, so if interested in one complete in its box do have a look at this Vectrex 3D Imager eBay auction.

The NES Smurfs

Released exclusively in France where the Smurfs are very sensibly known as the Schtroumpfs (which is exactly what I grew up calling the blue little things myself), this very rare, very boxed Schtroumpfs NES pack has appeared on eBay for you to bid on. The NES console comes complete in its cartoon-flavoured box with the Schtroumpfs cartridge, manuals, leaflets, leads, two controllers, etc.

New original Sega Genesis

The original Sega Genesis is the iconic and defining 16-bit console that strongly challenged Nintendo's dominance, and the system that brought forth a new era of console gaming. It is also a machine that went on to become hugely successful worldwide, and one that has aged gracefully. For a rare chance to grab an essentially new, unused, completely boxed console from 1989 do bid on this Sega Genesis eBay auction. You will be bidding on a new old stock model 1601 that was made in Taiwan back in 1989.

Seller ships to the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

The rare and lovely SAM Coupé

Released in 1989 SAM Coupé was the last 8-bit micro to really attempt to enter British homes, but despite its cool features and ZX Spectrum compatibility it was simply too late. The computer came with impressive specs including a standard 3.5" disk drive, a 6MHz processor, 256K of (expandable) RAM, stereo sound, a palette of 128 colours, and a ton of expansion options. It flopped and is now quite the collectible rarity.

To own one you could do much worse than bid on this rather impressive SAM Coupé bundle on eBay. The computer on offer comes with two disk drives, dust cover, original box, manuals, many disk magazines, the PSU, and a ton of software and games including boxed copies of Manic Miner, Defenders of the Earth, Astroball, and Prince of Persia.

Boxed JVC X'Eye

The JVC X'Eye, an expensive and not particularly successful console combining a Sega Genesis, Sega CD and JVC Karaoke, is a highly collectible rarity these days. It also is a lovely curio from the 16-bit gaming era, and one you can bid on via this JVC X'Eye eBay auction. Though neither fully tested, nor complete in its box, this X'Eye does come with an interesting selection of CDs, power supply, RF cables, and a controller.

Jupiter Cantab's Jupiter Ace

One of the more obscure 8-bit British micros, the Jupiter Ace was released in 1982 for £89.95, and was built around the Z80 processor and the FORTH language. It never sold in large quantities, and despite retaining quite a few followers to this very day, the Jupiter Ace is rare.

You can still bid on one via this Jupiter Ace eBay auction though. The computer on offer is fully working, and seems to be in great cosmetic condition too. It is accompanied by the power supply unit, the RF lead, and a book on FORTH.

Enterprise 64: Boxed and Wonderful

The last of the British 8-bit micros, the Enterprise by Intelligent Systems, despite being a solid micro that also offered ZX Spectrum compatibility and a rather odd built-in joystick, was released far too late. It simply stood no chance when faced with the Amiga and Atari ST. Its impressive 672x512 high-res graphics and 256 colours could not save it from becoming a rare computer to collect.

It's quite rare to see one of those on eBay too, but here's a finely preserved, boxed Enterprise 64 up for auction. It has been tested and is fully working, and comes complete with 128k of RAM, PSU, leads, BASIC cartridge, polys, and manual.

Atari Stacy 2

I do wish the Atari ST laptops were even better and even more successful machines than they actually were, but I also have to admit this Atari Stacy2 currently been auctioned over at eBay is, indeed, a thing of beauty. The computer on offer comes with an impressive 4MB of RAM, a 40MB hard drive, a crisp black & white LCD monitor, built-in trackball, and a 3.5" disk drive. It seems to be in a great working condition too, and comes complete with the original PSU.

One complete IBM PC Jr.

The IBM PC Jr, IBM's failed attempt at an affordable home computer with decent gaming capabilities, and a machine that essentially gave us King's Quest, also happens to be a rare and highly collectible micro. Even more so when coming complete, as is the case with this IBM PC Jr. eBay auction. The computer comes complete with its monitor, cables, cordless keyboard, manuals and guides, software, and even some of the original boxes.

Intelligent Systems' Enterprise

I love discovering obscure micros on eBay, and, well, the Enterprise 128 is definitely one of my absolute favourite forgotten 8-bits. The playful colors, the built-in joystick, the 128k of RAM, and the impressive audiovisual capabilities made this a very exciting computer, though not as exciting as the Atari STs and Amigas of the time and it sadly flopped. Not being cheaper than the ZX Spectrum didn't help much either...

Anyway. The Enterprise 128 on offer comes in its box with a Hungarian manual, the original power supply, all required cables, one game tape, the Basic cartridge, and the system bus cover. The micro seems to be in good working order.

Vectrex 3D Imager & 3D Crazy Coaster

The Vectrex 3D Imager, the proto-VR headset for the Vectrex --essentially an elaborate set of stereoscopic glasses-- is a lovely, exotic, and usually expensive accessory for the vector based console, and one you can bid on via this Vectrex 3D Imager eBay auction. The headset comes in its original box, has been tested and is working, and comes complete with the 3D Minestorm game, but lacks the colour wheel.

What's more, a complete, boxed copy of the 3D Crazy Coaster is also included with this Vectrex 3D Imager. My sources, the only person I know to have actually played this thing that is, tell me it's a pretty impressive piece of software too.

You can bid on a boxed unit of the console via this Sega CDX eBay auction. The unit comes complete with two controllers, the original power supply, a/v cables, a CD backup RAM cart, Sonic CD, Ecco The Dolphin (CD version), the Sega Classics Arcade Collection, Ristar, and Lightening Force.

Casio Loopy SV-100

Released in 1995 exclusively in Japan, the Casio Loopy was an obscure 32-bit console that was almost exclusively marketed to female gamers. It wasn't the best of ideas, it was patronizing, but it also makes for an interesting curio you can bid on via the Casio Loopy eBay auction. The console comes in its original box with manual, cables, controller, etc.

Atari Falcon 030

The final home computer by Atari, the 32-bit Atari Falcon never stood a chance in an already MS-DOS dominated market, and even less so when its mother company abandoned it to focus on its Jaguar console. The Falcon is thus nowadays a highly sought after collectible, and a rare and powerful computer running at 16Mhz, sporting an impressive DSP chip, 18-bit graphics, a multitasking OS, and all sorts of other varied bells and whistles.

Intrigued? Good, for here's an even more intriguing Atari Falcon 030 eBay auction. The computer  on offer has been used for less than 10 hours, and comes with an assortment of manuals, cables and disks, the mouse, an external hard-drive, and the SPDIF SoundPool.

The Atari ST Book a.k.a. the STBook

The rare, beautiful, and wonderfully 16-bit Atari ST Book notebook, the 1991 successor to the STacy, has appeared on eBay and you can bid on it via this Atari ST Book auction. Based on the Atari STe, this monochromatic portable computer was pretty powerful for its time, and highly sought after despite its notoriously reflective screen.

The one on offer is a working unmodified machine. It comes with a reproduction box, a pair of MIDI adaptors in their original boxes, an AA battery pack, an ACSI adaptor cable in its original box, and has had its hard-drive replaced with a CF card.
