In this study, we propose a scheme for monitoring the temperature within photonic integrated
circuits (PICs). This approach can be applied to any photonic integrated circuit platform and
enables precise temperature monitoring closer to the heat source and improved
independence from the wavelength of the interrogating laser. The solution allows a
temperature sensitivity of 0.09 nm/° C and 0.046 nm/° C for the two proposed modes and
approximately 1 nm independence from the interrogating laser wavelength.
