1 This paper focuses on lexical opposition and discourse contrast. We define opposition as
the relation between two lexical units that contrast with each other with respect to one key
aspect of their meaning and that are similar for all the other aspects (eg to increase/to
decrease, up/down). On the other end, we consider discourse contrast as the relation
between two parts of a coherent sequence of sentences or propositions (ie, discourse
