Efficient and reliable downlink is critical for various Low Earth Orbit satellite applications. To
understand its characteristics, we performed real-world measurements on a Low Earth Orbit
satellite and ground station. Our results reveal that reductions in signal-to-noise ratio above
a certain threshold do not critically impact transmission rates. However, significant loss and

Efficient and reliable downlink is critical for various Low Earth Orbit satellite applications. To understand its characteristics, we performed real-world measurements on a Low Earth Orbit satellite and ground station. Our results reveal that reductions in signal-to-noise ratio above a certain threshold do not critically impact transmission rates. However, significant loss and error frames can occur early due to the ground station's tracking mechanism. Additionally, poor link quality at low elevation angles introduces high packet error rates towards the end of the transmission window. Finally, we have released datasets for further research.
