Fumito Masui graduated from Okayama University in 1990 with a PhD in Engineering. He then worked at Oki Electric Industry Co., was an assistant in the Department of Engineering at Mie University, and served as a visiting researcher in the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology at Hokkaido University in 2004. Between 2009 and 2018, he was an associate professor in the Department of Engineering at the Kitami Institute of Technology. Since 2018, he has been a professor in the Department of Engineering at the Kitami Institute of Technology. His research interests include natural language processing, tourism informatics, and curling informatics. He is a member of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, the Institute of Electronics Information and Communication Engineers, the Information Processing Society, the Natural Language Processing Society, the Society for Fuzzy Theory and Intelligent Informatics, the Hokkaido Regional Tourism Society, AAAI, ACL, and the Japan Curling Association.
