Sci-Tek provided water sampling services along the Saw Mill Run Watershed to assist the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority (PWSA) in developing an Integrated Watershed Management Plan during the fall and spring sampling season.  Samples collected will be analyzed by Pace Laboratory for E.coli, TSS, TDS, Total and Dissolved Metals (Fe, Mn, Al, Cu, Zn), SO4, CBOD5, NH3, NO3+NO2, TKN, TP, and OPO4.  Sci-Tek conducted three types of field sampling events for this project inclusive of:

  • Dry Weather Sampling Events: This type of sampling event is to be conducted at the following locations in order to characterize base flow conditions in the watershed: SMR-101, SMR-102, SMR-003, SMR-103, and reference location RR-001.
  • Wet Weather Sampling Events – In-stream and Reference Locations: This type of water sampling event will be conducted at the following locations in order to characterize flow conditions for a range of precipitation, flow, and seasonal conditions: SMR-101, SMR-102, SMR-003, SMR-103, and reference location RR-001.
  • Wet Weather Sampling Events – Source Characterization (Outfall) Locations: This sampling event will be conducted in order to characterize flow conditions for a mixture of stormwater outfalls, CSO outfalls, and SSO outfalls at the following locations: CSO-041, CSO-024 with CSO-039 as an alternate, and SWO-1.
